15x12 SEF Coil did good today.

We have had some rain here in the last two weeks. The ground is nice and wet. Hunted today where they used to set up a carnival before WWII it's a driving range for golfer's now. The 15x12sef was working good found this stuff in about three hours. I've hunted this place some in the past. Total take 17 wheaties,1 IH,2silver dimes, a sterling silver hat pin. OH and a kansas tax token not pictured. Was using Andys coin program Auto +3 deep off, fast on, and difficult. Starting to get a handle on digging some of the one way hit's. Had a blast thank's for looking. AL

The pin is totally cool. I'm saving a copy of your picture of that. Hope you don't mind.

All nice finds Al! I always appreciate you telling us how the machine was working for you and some of the settings. Thanks for the great pictures and congratulations on the terrific finds!

you want a better picture of that pin just google military lapel pins. It's called ( ruptured duck lapel pin )

thats a result well done when you fitted your 15 x 12 coil does it seem firm on your stem i used my freinds and it kept in a correct position whilst hunting when i purchased one i found it was a little wobbly and my partner has made a thin plastic washer which seems to hold it fine i just wondered if i was something missing thanks

Nice finds! So how deep were they when compared to stock coil?

The reason I ask is, I just got a 12x15 SEF myself, and I have had very little time to try it so far. I was wondering if you noticed any depth increase? As you may have noticed it is an extremely heavy coil, and I was wondering if it was truly worth the extra arm pain.

i use mine all the time on pasture it isnt depth as it would be hard to judge unless you had the two coils sweeping one first then the other but it has amazing coverage so defo worth the bit of extra weight lol

I am seriously thinking about getting a swingy thingie for it cause WOW it burns my arms. With the stock coil I switch arms every 15 minutes, but with this 12x15 beast it's more like every 3 minutes... ouch!

well i am surprised as i am a lady pensioner and i swing the etrac with 15 x 12 coil for maximum of six hours with just breaks when i am digging and would never think of swopping hands and i havent been to weight training lol are you sure you have it properly balanced

You may want to try adding some weight to the arm cup area of your E-trac. I switched to one of the aftermarket aluminum cups and stand and the extra weight really helped the balance while using the bigger coils. :detecting:

to keeping the correct position of the coil to the shaft...i like to leave mine loose enough so that i can follow the contour of the ground with out haveing to stop and reposition it. As to the depth ... not so sure that it goes any deeper than the stock coil ....but i think it has a better target response ...crisper and clearer.IMHO. So now for the weight....when i first got it i rigged a thing to help support it but found it got in the way when i would get down to dig.. so just toughed it out and now dont hardly notice how heavy it is unless i'am hunting in stubble or rocks where i have to hover then it makes my shoulder ache after a couple of hour's. I use this coil a lot now in open places where the target's ar'nt to plentiful.....better coverage, better target response, same or a little better depth than stock coil, what is there not to like about this coil...if you can get used to the weight. Now i need to get a smaller coil for trashy areas. Thinking seriously about the 8x6 sef .....opinion's?????? Thank's AL

Now that's a heck of a hunt! Very nice finds, congratulations and thanks for the story and Pics

Well, I am nearly 6ft tall so I have my lower shaft out as far as it will allow me to go. Maybe this is throwing off my balance?

Tomorrow I get to detect - all day - I will be using the 12x15. I can feel the burning in my forearms already!

Looks like it was a blast, definately follow up on the pin... CONGRATS on an awesome hunt
