15x12 SEF is it waterproof?

I have one of these coils and love it. But I've not read anywhere on the box, or some of the sites that sell it, if it is definatly waterproof or not.

Could someone confirm whether it is or not?

Thanks

I dipped mine the salt water a few times on Sunday assuming it is waterproof, then it accured to me that I have not read anywhere that it was designed to be waterproof. I figured by the weight that it must be epoxy filled and therefor waterproof. I just want to confirm with those in the know.

Maybe I'll contact Kellyco?

Found a nice silver ring with an inset Garnet with this coil on the weekend, thought it was a Ruby for a bit but it was not to be. The missus stole it off me the minute I walked in the door and told me to go find another one.

Yea, it's waterproof. It's probably not important but most say these coil's cable nuts are not even finger tight. I removed mine and put some Shoe Goo onto the threads and cable, then tightened it back on finger tight and gave it about a quarter more turn with a wrench to be sure it was sealed. Even if water got in there I don't think it would hurt the coil because I think it's filled with epoxy, meaning water can't get to the windings. In general non-waterproof coils are not filled entirely with epoxy. The above can be done to them to make them waterproof but if there is any kind of pin prick hole in them the coil can be ruined.

if over tightened it can and will leak

Finger tight to one person is different to another with greater hand strength. It isn't going to hurt to tighten it a quarter of a turn more with a wrench IMHO, but use your own discression. The Shoe Goo is added insurance as the coil cable sleeve on all the coils I've seen doesn't seal to the cable, so I put that on around the cable rather thick so that when the sleeve slides down over it they are sealed with each other. On the other hand, I don't think these coils can get water in them. I bet the windings as well as the pre-amp circuit are encased in epoxy. If they weren't I bet the coil would weight a good 5 or more ounces lighter.

I did the above to my 10" Tornado and S-5 coil. No problems and no leaks when dunked in water to wash them off in a puddle or body of water before leaving the site I just hunted.
