18 x 15 SEF Coil

Anyone using the 18x15 SEF/ Considering buying one for the Etrac. I have the 10x12 and like it. Although, it is heavy, I can only guess that the 18 is heavier. Any feedback? Also, had the maiden run with the Etarc today in 30 degrees... found some keys, 20 or so coins, and 52 Roosie. Thanx, Mike

Best large coil I've used on the Etrac.

But it is heavy, especially as the hunt goes on. One of those swingy thingys would take the weight out of the picure. I only do short hunts so I dont bother.

I only use mine where target density is low. Nice crisp tones, very good pinpointing for a big coil. I personally haven't found items deeper than the standard coil but i've only used it for a handful of hunts. Coverage is great for large sites like ovals, beaches etc.

Cheers,
Greg

Works great but is quite heavy.I have found that it was no deeper than the stock coil on coins under quarter size in my fairly mineralized SW MO soil.Great for ground coverage in low trash areas and will get quite a bit better depth on larger targets. Also likes large caliber CW bullets and went very deep on them for me.Is very quiet and stable for such a large coil as well.

I have not used the 18 incher but do use a 14 inch and can tell you that in the highly mineralized and iron rich ground I hunt with it that it definitely gets down deeper than the sef 10x12. IN my area. I recommend you teat one out before you buy if you can.

good luck,

I love mine.

Here's a couple of things to read:

I have a picture in a book and it shows how much more coverage it has over the stock coil

You would need a bungee but it's not so heavy withone of these

Recived the 18 x 15 SEF today... MAANNNNNN it's huge... hope that means it gets a couple inches deeper? Lot of weight, just cover a field quicker. Gonna give it a whirl this weekend.
Any comments? Thanx, Mike

Swing it to the left or right of you depending on your preference. Too difficult to swing in front of you. My bungee harness snapped a couple of days ago and I can still swing it for 3 1/2 hours without a problem...and I'm not strong.
