1837 Half Penny

The Fog

Found this at an old site today, I was hoping for an early US coin but since I've never found one of these and it's in nice shape I was pretty happy with it.

Very nice coin!

Ray that one rung in at 38, it was about 8 inches down. Every single Old large copper I have found has rung in at 38 with the exception of one 1751 King George which sang at 36. Although when they are down at the 12-14" range they will bounce around a bit until you get some dirt out of the hole. I picked this one up in the woods, there are 3 cellar holes in the area, hit the first 2 holes 2 weeks ago and it was clear they were pounded.... produced nothing in 4 hours. This time I found the 3rd site but I only had 30 minutes, found this in the first 15 and can't wait to get back. There is a cellar hole, barn foundation, privy foundation, walls delineating gardens, and more walls as pasture fences.... big area. It's nice to get a coin in these spots as it clearly dates the homesite. Unfortunately I will probably need a hammer and screwdriver to get through the top inch of the soil since the temps have dropped to 20.

I wanna come detecting with you!! We don't get them that old out here in the West. I hope you get some spanish silver for your efforts, or a bust dime! That would be something.

In good shape that coin.
Same problem here in Norway 14 cold today.

Ray I found a capped bust half dime, a seated half dime and a half reale all in the same hole last spring.

Bust dime???? OK, if I ever take a trip out east, I'm coming to stay at your house for a few days, LOL.

Oh my, that is a dream coin! That, and a 3 center. Those little bust coins are some of the prettiest coins ever made. Nice find!!
