Quick hunt in a new area, found 6 wheaties, 2 musket balls, a sword scabbard tip, a barber dime and this holed large cent. I'll post the scabbard tip later, still have to clean it up a bit. This weekend I am detecting a farm that has been in operation since 1650, can't wait for this hunt.

Congrats on finding that very old and very cool 1 Cent coin!

I just used a soft toothbrush and worked it for about a half hour or so while I watched TV. If it's really caked with crap I will soak in a hydrogen peroxide for a day, changing the peroxide 3-4 times. But the peroxide bath will turn the coin a dark brown. The matron and classic head large cents are rarely worth much so i don't mind using either method on them.
