1853 Quarter

Ohio bud

New member
I pulled an 1853 Quarter last year and it had a hole at the top. Was this a common practice and for what purpose?

Ohio Bud

That was a common practice for the times. They would string them together ans sew them inside their clothing, or they would make watch fob dangles, ware them as jewelry, Etc. I find them at Civil War Site and around old house sites in that manner. They are a real Pierce of Americana. Great find there. HH...Jesse.
