1867 IH penny update

ok I did what i could to make this penny legible, I am happy with it now, compared to how it came out of the ground. I think it turned out decent.

I had it inside a white potato for about 20 hours, removed it about every 6 hours and changed it to a new slit. It removed 90% of the green corrosion, so the date is readable, that was my main concern. At least now it is presentable in my collection of dug IH cents.

Looks good, but I have never heard of using a potato to clean corroded coins....sure would be easier than Olive Oil and a pick! People use potato halves on their eyes when they get welding flashes making their eyes sore and tender! My ex did that one time and had to do this, so it does work! Therefore, don't look straight at anyone welding for any length of time because you sure will get aching and sore eyes! Congrats on cleaning the IH for your coin book and may you find many more but uncorroded!

God Bless!

Welcome to the forum dale3fan28 and hope you post often! Always glad to have new members! Don't know the answer to what you asked though, as I've never cleaned any coins by using a potato! :)

God Bless!
