1874 IH

Found an older IH today (1874 with a full LIBERTY in the headband) right near a 1939 Merc dime. Also found a few other odds and ends that were quite deep as well as a 1914 wheat cent. Funny park - not many coin hits (including modern clad) and very little junk. This is the third IH I have pulled and first silver from this location. It feels to me that this place may have been pounded before, though oddly enough the Merc was only at 4" and I almost didn't dig it as it sounded like a Lincoln cent. I suspect that there may be some good stuff deeper that the other "pounders" couldn't see - so I may head back with the WOT and see what's below.

How did you get your Indian Head to blow-up so big? I have been using a Scanner and can't get it to do what you did. Are you using a Digital Camera and if so, what kind of Format are you saving your Pic's with, and what size? Thanks for any advice. Good Luck and HH. P.S. Nice Indian Head! There hard to find 1879 and below.

Hi James, I use an Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner that I purchased last year - was probably less than $200. I use their scan software then crop the image - at that point I can choose a resolution of 2400 DPI because the pic is small and the resulting .jpg file is less than 300K which is postable and the forum reduces the size, but you can click on it and see lots of detail. I think it's much better than using a digital camera for this sort of thing. Hope this helps....Erik
