1884 1/2 eagle air test

lud

New member
I bid you good tidings brothers. So, I really got tired air testing gold rings, so I bought this 1/2 eagle for testing purposes. Strong 30 at all times. Never budged off 30. So, if you see something around 30, dig it hombre.

That would be a sweet find for sure. Thanks for the info... come to think of it I don't remember the last time I saw a 30. But I have only been doing this since Mar.

Thanks for testing that coin Lud, we had this discussion a year ago and many were surprised to see a gold coin ring so high, the gold coins will ring as high as 32, the lower the karat the lower the tone and ID (in ferrous mode). Which is why gold coins will ring high and 10kt / 14kt gold charms, chains etc ring down in the teens and low 20's. Which made me smile because I scrim out many of the lower numbers since I primarily hunt colonial sites, back then gold was gold and usually higher kt items :)
