Hi everyone well I found a 1914-D Buffalo today. It was at an old town and it was in coal dust. Very good condition but with some very small chips from the coal I guess. You can see the entire horn and the ribbons on the hair. How do I get this appraised?. I also found a 1914 barber dime and a 1920 merc and a 1946 dime all in good shape. HH George in Colorado

Nice Find CarneyGeorge! The only problem with Nickels is that they tend to Pit when they have been in the ground for long periods of time. I think that is what you are seeing on your Nickel. It might look to be in great condition, but if you went and magnified it with a 10X Loop, I am sure you would see Pit Marks in the surface. Still a great find though! I think if you put it on Ebay, you may find someone that will pay you a few bucks for it. For some reason, sometimes things on Ebay go for more than they are originally worth, but that is what happens when you get a couple people interested in an item and then they just try and bid as much as possible until they know that they cannot afford it. So, I think that is what I would do with it. Just state that it is a dug Nickel and see what kind of bids you get on it. You can also put a small reserve on it if you think it is worth a certain amount. Good Luck with getting some kind of grade on it and hope you find a buyer for it if you decide to sell it. Good Luck and HH.

Hi yeah thats what it looks like. It's just the pits hahhahahah. I went back to the same town today and only a 1940-D penny but it was still fun just being outside. HH George in Colorado

Up here in ND, the ground is frozen solid. If I only had a small Pick Axe, then I could go out to a couple fields and be able to retrieve a few finds. Good Luck and HH to you at that old town site of yours.

Hi James, Yes we here in western Colorado live in a perfect area for Metal Detecting. In the summer we have the mountains and in the winter we have the desert. It doesn't really get too cold here, although it has been cold lately I still go out daily. The ground doesn't get so frozen that you can't get into it with a little work. And a 16 oz framing hammer.
