1st 12 Hours with Safari!! Phenomenal!!

Prodigy

New member
Heres my first 12 hours or so of metal detecting with my new safari i got over thanksgiving. There is a heart locket, 2 spoons, 4 buttons (ones in a case lower right), wheaties (1915,1919,1931, 1958-d), a watch part, a ladies compact made by Tre-jur in NYC around 1925, a skeleton key, and a silver quarter. The first thing is that all these were found in so called "Hunted Out" places... and UK is better than IU. Next, if you look at the skeleton key, you notice there arent any teeth. They were not broken off, there just arent any. Why is this? Ive seen this on clock keys but this is much too big for a clock. Lastly, the Standing Liberty gave me a signal from 30, 32, 33, 34, 36, 38, and yes 40!!!! The 40 was very slight but it did appear. After digging, a 1940 clad nickel popped out. I realized this would not have registered that high so I rechecked the hole. All i could hear was 38 and i knew it was a coin. When it popped out, i thought it was a washington. After seeing the wings on the back, I went crazy!! It was my first silver quarter, and ive been doin this awhile. Some reason i have just never found one. I look forward to posting more in the future.

Congrats. That a terrific first hunt or two, with the Safari. I'm surprised that your SLQ jumped around the tid's so much. I dug only my second SLQ last week and the tid was as expected 38-39 for a 90% silver coin. Do you recall what stats you were running at & what were the type of soil/ground conditions ?

Well once i got the nickel out of the hole it was a solid 38, so it mustve had something to do with that. I was running threshold at 14, auto sensitivity, and discrimination between 30 and 40. The soil was perfect since it had rained a little but not a whole lot and its really nice dirt, no black sand and crap.

Prodigy awesome finds buddy!! keep us posted on your Safari finds, i'm looking to get it next..currently use a Garrett GTP 1350.

Some nice old finds there, I found a compact just like the one you have pictured, gotta be more old silver at that site. I tweaked your photos a bit for better viewing, hope ya dont mind.

Your first 12 hours were better than my 12 if I remember correctly was thinking of wrapping Safari/Etrac around tree.

Hey Fog , nice job on the tweeking of the photos. Congrats to Prodigy on the fantastic finds. My first hours on the safari weren't even close to that. Here's to many more good finds
