1st Barber Quarter With The 705

Hi guys, was out detecting an old property with MaynardG and my Mom today and ran across a pretty strong 44-46 signal. Much to my surprise about 6" deep I uncovered a 1899-O Barber quarter!

Although I pulled up a 1911 Barber dime last year, this was my first Barber quarter. I was just about done detecting for the day and also found a 1944 mercury dime. I love finding those but due to being overshadowed by the Barber quarter, it just didn't have quite the impact that it normally would have.

I was also surprised to dig my first Susan B. Anthony today. After finding the Barber, the first thing that I saw on the SBA was the eagle on the back. I thought I had something really good being that you don't see an eagle on any modern coins with possibly the exception of the dollar gold coins or Sacagawea coin. I have some SBA's around that are in good shape but for some reason this one didn't look the same with the clad worn off. What's funny was the date was a little worn. It's a 1979 and the upper part of the 7 is worn a little and I thought I had something from 1919 at first. What a quick roller coaster ride but thats all part of the fun.

I was using the 10.5" MF DD today.

Excellent finds!

Barber quarters are rare around here anymore. I found a dateless one last spring.

mapper, look on the reverse side of your clad Quarters up until 1998, they have a Eagle on the back, except for your Bi-cen.

Also, Gr8 find on the Barber Quarter. Now that you found one it will be a lil easier to find the next one.

Hadn't thought about the eagle on the modern clad quarters. The SBA is kind of the old school eagle which through me for a loop.

Congrats on your first Barber Quarter! I know how I felt when I dug my first Quarter and Dime last year. they are classy coins with a lot of history behind them!! Now....join me to work on getting our first Barber Half!!!!

Ironically my 3rd sliver was an 1834 capped half dime. I'd love to find the Barber.

Nice find... I have only found one myself in 6 years of detecting.
Nice addition to your collection!!
Congrads.

Congrats! That's awesome - keep the old ones coming. Waiting patiently for my first Barber as well. Old coins are addictive - after your first, you want more and more and more...
