1st day with the SE

Old Sox

New member
Had a lot of fun today learning the Explorer. Hit a couple of old spots and found a flattened round ball, flattened buckshot, two rings(thought I had a class ring on the one) the other was .925 silver, 3 quarters, two hot wheel cars, one '65 dime and one '61 silver dime, a '44 and '20 wheatie, four clad pennies, lots of tabs and junk, a 2000 Tulsa reader award coin, and a '70 nickel. I am gonna like this machine. The pinpointing for the most part was very good, my deepest find being the 8" round ball. Most stuff was around the 5" mark. The only trouble I had was in moderate trash, seemed like when it nulled, it took a long time to recover to the threshold, I slowed way down in the trash and found the two wheats and the silver dime. Pinpointing in the trash was tough tho and I dug some big holes. Overall, I freakin love this thing so far and cant wait till tomorrow:biggrin:

Any tips for the stock coil in trash????

You did better in one day than I did the whole time I had my XS.............

Hello Elton,
A blind hog can find an acorn every now and then!! I decided that I was not gonna get frustrated and was gonna go slow and deliberate until I get acquainted with it. I am not gonna touch any tweaks for a while and see what happens..
Heck, if it gets any better, I will have to get a new back and knees.............and a longer shovel:clapping:

In Trash, when you think you have a Good Target, try and sweep the Coil in as small of an area over the Target, back and forth. This will help narrow down the area the item you may think is good, so when you dig, it won't be that big of a hole. Also, when you have a good idea where the Target is, then use the Pinpoint Button. Take a few Coins and try Air Testing them in Pinpoint also before your next hunt, while you raise the Coil further away from the Target. This will help give you a better idea where to dig on Targets in the Ground. It would be wise to purchase a Smaller Coil for Trashy Area's also, and if you don't already have one, a Sunray X-1 Probe. This Accessory will help save time in Recovering Targets, being either Shallow or Deep Targets in a Hole. Hope this helps a bit Old Sox. Nice finds by the way! The sites have Potential. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH.

Looks to me like you had a real fine first day!

Your pinpointing seems to be well under control ...

Terrific !

:smoke:

and it gets better and better the more ya use it....good first finds:thumbup:

Thanks fella's,

I am telling ya, I absolutely hammered a small section of a yard (1890's) with my DFX. I found 20+ wheat pennies, a buffalo nickel, V-nickel, a couple of silver dimes, and some foreign coins all in a 15' X15' area in the front yard. I made it a point (as I was hunting it) to grid it off and slow down with the DFX. I thought I cleaned it out. I hunted it for about 20 minutes yesterday and found the 2 wheats and the silver dime before dark. I found them mixed with some iron that the DFX just couldnt find I guess. The SE would null on the iron but I could hear that high pitched chirp if I slowed way down. I had trouble with the recovery speed and pinpointing in trash and I know I could find more with a small coil, but dang I hate to shell out the cash right now. I am gonna keep swinging the stock coil, it will probably make me get better.

It seemed like it took a long time to recover after a null, is this normal??

I am gonna try your tip on pinpointing James N.D., thanks.
