1st impressions of the Vaquero

Okay, it should be viewable now. Thankfully my 12 year old son is a tech geek and knows this stuff like the back of his hand. It was an easy fix (for him).

DanB . Like me your Vaq is getting 50 per cent less depth the kaloins. Whats going on here ? How come all vaqs are not created equal?

I see that you are a tejon user, and I am leaning much toward it for relic hunting in South-west Louisiana mild soils. Please coment on the differences between the Vaquero and the Tejon for relic hunting; cost is not the issue. Performance is. I am trying to get used to the lack of tones since I am an old minellab Soverign user with bad hearing. I run Deterpro black widow headphones to help with the hearing issues. Any comments will be much appreciated.

Hat pin its the amount of discrimination used i had mine set at foil dans was set at nickel and lost 2" depth i just did the test as Dan did and got the exact same depth, I will post the video after lunch so try using less disc if you can and you will get better depth, Gunnar

There's no good reason to ever set the discrimination @ 'nickel'. You're better off setting discrimination either at 'foil' or 'pull tab'. At 'foil' you'd get rid of foil and still dig nickels and gold rings. Set at 'nickel' you'd lose nickels and some gold rings and still be digging pull tabs.

Now watch this , dan B settings on my VAQ note the coins get the same depth as dan so using more disc gets you less depth, even my bliss only discs out small foil hear is the vid

Hmmm....

When I analyzed the results of todays air-test compared to yesterday's, my location under the lights actually netted better results with the disc @5

Oops, I misspoke when refering to the disc on the Vaquero. There is no word "foil" on the disc setting. I've been playing around with the Deleon and I mixed up the disc labelling in my head. The line I meant to refer to is the one at around 10 o'clock that precedes the 5

As you know , I just traded my outlaw for a Vaquero, I have never owned a VAQ so wanted to try it , before the bliss went south i had the bliss for deep targets, but wanted something for just hunting the soccer fields, so I got the outlaw , but with the bliss in for repairs over 6 months I decided to get rid of that when it gets back , and needed a replacement, heard some reports of the vaquero being deep so I decided to get the VAQ, well it came in the mail today and i put the small 5.75 concentric on it and I can say with no doubt just the 5.75 is deeper than the 10x 12 on the outlaw no kidding in all metal & disq i can hit a u,s dime at 10" dig gable signal ,and a nickel at 13 no problem shot shell 14" this machine with even the small coil in the woods is going to kick but , haven't even tried the 8x 9 yet this machine may well find me something around the old foundation as the small coil is cursing deep in discriminate, SO WHAT ARE THE DIFFRENCES between the VAQ & the outlaw , well from just my short test I can tell you they are two different machines, the outlaw is hotter on gold in my opinion and has a smooth all metal the vaq loves Iron in its all metal even a paper clip 12" deep and not as easy to tell Iron from not Iron all i can say for sure is the vaq is deeper but the outlaw is a smooth machine in that 1st 6"and is excellent at ignoring Iron & junk both must have tesoro machines will keep you informed as i keep trying it out , Gunnar

when i hunt old house sites how i tell iron from good target is iron only hit one way good target hit two ways and i have my disrimination right above cut out nails it will crack and pop on nails but a good target will hit strong and on the nails you need to go slow because my machine has popped and cracked on them but there has been cases where there was something good there along with the nail,it will hit a solid tone right against the nail,i have dug alot of stuff with the one way hit and it was always iron, but on a horseshoe or axe head it will hit both ways.i dont mind digging steel who knows it could be a steel box full of money,so thats how it works on my vaq i dont have any idea how it works on yours but thats how it works on mine. my vaq was a low tone and i could tell by the sound from a good target or iron and i sent in back about 6 months ago and had it and had a high tone put in it and i cant tell by the sound now so i have to go by the one way hit or the two way hit.it took me 3 years to learn my vaq really good, when you learn your machine really well its is a excellent machine

I had to send my Vaq in because the frequency switch was not working. Told them to check out the depth so its probably being tweaked. ordered a 5.75 inch concentric coil. Been studying power balancing. Cant wait to hit the woods to see what i may have missed. With this weather it looks like it will be a month or more.

Im anxious to see how you do with the Vaq kaolin.

I am sure you will like it.. I have two of them. One for home in Indiana and one for the Philippines.. They are a doop tector. It will speek to you . Thak your time with it.. I also use that small coil. I have one for both of mu tectores.. Good luck and enjoy... KEN

Thats a good video. My vaquero didnt air test very deep but I thought it did well in actual use. If I can get a ten inch silver dime like on the vid. there will be a whole new world for me to detect.
