2004 Seated & Bust Finds!

Very impressive!
I've only been fortunate enough to find a few seated coins...one quarter and two dimes.
Here was my nicest silver coin ever...

Betcha can't wait to get back out there and dig some more! I know I can't. Hope you post some more of your finds for the year!
Neal

I haven't come across an arrows and rays quarter yet! NICE FIND!!!

I'll hold off on the rest of the silver until after next week. I'm planning a trip over to Illinois and I hear they don't have any snow over there. If it's not frozen solid I will do some digging! I kinda doubt I will find a seated coin however the places I'm going to hunt have given up a few in the past!

Thanks. I got it a few years ago. It was about 6" down in the middle of a vacant lot in Suffolk, Virginia in the old peanut factory industrial area of town. I was using the DFX I had at the time. I was in total on that one!

You got me beat by a mile. Any idea of when the site was no longer used? Judging by the condition of the coins I would guess 1880-90s?
Still waiting for my first bust.
Chris

5 of the sites were done by 1890 and are now farm fields. One was a school that was torn down in 1947 and is now a field and the last one is a park that is in use today! 12 of these came from one of the old fields.

You are right about that! Let's see yours. I know you found a bunch too! I'm looking forward to getting back out there...........

Nice Bunch Of Seated Keith We got a very lite snow last night, but the Temp has been around the 5 to 10 degree area with wind chill below zero.
The Ground is Froze down to about 4" to 5". But they are calling for a Rise in temp for the Rest of the week so you may still be able to get out.

About a half dozen of my seated came from a post 1900 site and many of them were as worn as the one 1877 example you have. Looks like 30-50 years of work does a number on a dime.

can you tell me how you have your settings on your minelab? thanks

I was over today and checked the park and as you said it is frozen. I could get the tip of the knife in but that was it without some major effort. I think I'll wait until mid week and check back with you! If it's thawed in your area maybe we can get together for some dirt fishing!
