The rain stopped about 7:30a so asked the wife if she needed any additional help taking down the rest of the Christmas decorations? She said "no, go detecting for a while." They can read us like a book. So, since the F 75 LTD had had a good year ending rest, grabbed it with its 11 DD coil and headed out to the woodlands. I decided on the way to just re-hunt a patch that was close to the parking area and keep the hunt to two hours. The first hour and 45 minutes I had dug but one coin, several gold coin readings and the pedometer, which was under a layer of leaves. I was about 100 yards from my SUV right on the edge of the woods beside a road when I got a nice hit with a 90-92 reading with some depth. I thought, "maybe a silver quarter" and dug about a 5" deep scoop of mud. Nothing in the clod and got a good high tone hit over the hole. Dug down another 3 or 4" and this time the target was in the clod. Pro pin pointed it and saw the wide edge of silver. Hmmm, I thought, not a bad way to end my first hunt of 2013. Re-scanned the hole and got another high tone tic. Scooped out a little more dirt and saw another wide edge piece of silver in the dirt. "Wow," I thought, "I have never dug 2 halves in 40 + years of hunting on the same hunt, let 2 in the same hole." Re-scanned the hole again and got a slight audio break through my head phones. Stuck the Pro pin pointer down into the loose dirt that was still in the bottom of the hole and got a good vibration. Moved the pin pointer around in the dirt and saw the wide rim of another silver coin totally on edge. I must admit my hand was shaking as I stuck it down into the hole to pluck out that 3rd half. As best as I can tell, those 3 coins were from 7 to 9 + inches deep. They are, 1918, 1942s and 1945. The lowly wheat cent is 1920. Those 3 equal all the silver halves I found all of last year.
