Went back to an old state fair grounds that has been run to death over the years. The T2 did its job and found some clad and a Civil War era buckle. I also found 3 nails 8 inches deep that rang in the penny range. In the air the vid was 15. I wonder why such a difference in VIDs? Good hunting.

Leaching around the nail pushed up the averaging.... So it showed good ..............

Try air-testing it out at the fringes and I bet you'll see ID start to shift. Rotate it like a compass needle as you swing and you'll get more variations, with double beeps or single hits dpending on orientation. Some detectors will read iron better if you bob the coil (like manual ground balancing) instead of sweeping side-to-side. It may not read till you are directly over it, so it helps with pinpointing too. Not all detectors behave that way, but many do. Most junk targets like bullet casing and rusty nails, also rusty bottlecaps that can give false hi-tones, move down to iron with a coil bob technique.
