I went back to an old time favourite happy hunting ground this morning.
I have been over it many times and have found some good stuff there with my Xterra70 and Ace 250
It is heavily mineralised and littered with 100 year old rusty iron and lead.
I tried a fairly open pattern that I made up yesterday and left it in Auto +2 (manual 25 was very chirpy)
It was difficult swinging pushing the coil through the long grass and I resorted to my Doc's Swingy Thing after about 2 hours.
I dug a quite few bits of trash and think that I am now beginning to get a feel for what is junk and what is good etrac stuff
There is a big old pine tree that I have been around dozens of times with my other detectors and that is where I found a nice old brass 1911 dog tag from down deep
I scouted along a track (some folks call them trails) and got a stable and clear 11.34 ...out came a 1943 half penny
What is it about my etrac and 1943 half pennys ? I have only hunted with it twice and both times I have found one of that year.
A few metres on and another awesome signal, clear and stable 01.40
Now being a Etrac newbie I was excited because I was thinking silver but I was wrong it was a big ( 34mm and 18.7grams )copper coin from around 7" down.
It turns out to be a Queen Victoria "Young Head series" Penny with a hard to read date ( I am working on that) these were made from 1838 to 1860.
This new machine ROCKS !
