Mark,

Good Luck. Listen for the "chirp" and dig some of those oddball Western Theater bullets that us Eastern guys lust after!

Thanks Tom!! Speaking of strange bullets, have you ever seen one of these? I still have not ID'ed it yet. .48 diameter.. Found in a Union Camp

Mark,

No Guess but I will forward the photo to Dean Thomas, bullet guru and all around great guy, for his input.

Good luck with the Safari, I have enjoyed mine. Look forward to seeing some of your finds. What are you using now? Remember to give us the skinny on the finds...ie, numbers and depths.

Mark,

Showed the photo to Dean and Jim Thomas, the two most knowledgeable bullet people around and they are both scratching their heads. Jim (Handbook of Civil War Bullets and Cartridges) thought it looked like someone had taken a conical revolver bullet mould and rebored the cavity to a roundball. The tip of the point at the top of the bullet and the base look like a standard New Model Colt pattern bullet, right length, etc.

Has anyone found a match to that bullet in your area?

This is why I collect bullets. Every once in a while a specimen comes along that makes us say "What the Hell is that?!?!?!?".

This is the 1st that I am aware of Tom that has been found, before I found it I got 2 pinfire drops from the same camp.

Been using the Xterra 70 with the 10.5DD med freq coil for a few years on and off. I hope that the Safari will do good on the deep bullets like this one......

Thanks Mark, I think the safari can handle it. Good luck finding out the info on your bullet. Sure is an interesting find.
