I took the XS into the woods today for the first time. It went well and I learned a few things today. One is, everyone who said I shoud get a pin pointer is right! I dug most of the bullets at about 9 inches and was using stock 10.5 inch coil. I wasted a lot of time digging craters trying to find them. Ill be getting a pin pointer soon! I went to 2 sites not far from home, one is just a couple of minutes away.
The first site I used 25 sensitvity on manual and had no problem. The second site I had to switch to auto to get the detector to hold a threshold tone. The soil was a lot tougher there. After that the detector did great. I didnt dig any iron today. Just brass, lead, and shotgun shells. I didnt want to take a chance of misiing a button so I dug them even though after a while I could see where they were reading.
One thing I have noticed about this detector is it can really find very tiny pieces of brass and lead. I had a Sovereign maybe 8 or more years ago and what I remember about it is how it too could find very small items I didnt keep it long though because my Fishers did way better on depth. The Explorer not only finds small items it also goes deep. All the bullets at 9-10 inches sounded very loud and weren't the least bit "iffy".
Here is what I found. Nothing great but hey... anytiime I can hit the woods and find a few bullets is a good day. It was also about 65 degrees here today!
