3 khz coil

There seems to be few that use the 3 khz coil. I may be mistaken but it would seem to me for those that use it would get results close to that of the E-Trac. Maybe I'm missing something but if a person thats going for silver that the 3khz would do an excellent job. Just curious.

thanks 4 posting I would be interested 2

I have and use a 3kHz coil (among others), and the bigest complaint that I have is that I can't get one that is a DD configuration. When someone finally produces one I'll be on it like stink.

I think you are comparing just the one frequency that the 3kHz coil is using to just one of the many that the E-Trac is capable of. Its always been my understanding that the advantage of the E-Trac was it's ability to scan through multiple frequencies with the same coil as you are searching the ground where the X-Terra will only scan using the one frequency of the coil that you have connected to it at that point in time. Based on target orientation and soil composition, it's possibly that a silver target may be a little more sensitive at a higher frequency than it normally might be and with the E-Trac's ability to scan through a group of frequencies rather than a single frequency, that silver coin might read a little better at a high frequency compared to what it normally might be picked up at. In that case using a low frequency coil on our X-Terra, the target would have been missed by using that one single low frequency.

Someone else may want to chime in on this but that's always been my understanding of why the E-Trac is just a little better detector than the 705. I can't complain about my 705 being that I've found over 2000 coins in the first 2 years with it.

2000 in the first 2 years is very impressive to say the least.

So they only come in concentric?

I have used my 3 kHz coil in an old park that was loaded with pull tabs, bottle caps, aluminum foil and still managed to find 2 Mercury dimes.:)

As I've suggested on numerous occassions, (as well as in my eBook) the 9-inch concentric at 3 kHz is a silver coin killer! For areas where target separation is not my primary concern, it is my coil of choice on the X-TERRA. The 3 kHz frequency is more responsive to higher conductive targets, such as silver and copper, than the MF or HF coils. In addition, it provides easily distinguished harmonics on deeply buried iron. In my part of the Country where high levels of mineralization are few and far between, the 3 kHz concentric will detect most US coins deeper than any other X-TERRA coil currently available. Today I actually hunted an old (still in use) school sports field with my 3kHz, that was so clean of trash and such mild soil (GB @ 7 offset +2), that I ran wide open in All Metal mode. That site has been hunted hard for years, and there was evidence of others there recently, but I pulled six deep Wheats out that had been missed.....and I've only covered about a 20th of it. This coil sees a lot of what others don't.

Hey Digger! Any rumors of a 3kHz DD in the works?

Only the one's I've started! Seriously, I know that Minelab is fully aware of the requests for a DD at 3 kHz. I also know that they won't release a coil until it has passed some very stringent testing procedures. Hopefully the work will continue and, someday, we'll all be digging 10-inch dimes with our X-TERRAs HH Randy

so were do YOU buy this coil? If minelab doesn't make 1.?

The ONLY 3 kHz coil available from any source is Minelab's 9-inch concentric. It is available from any Minelab dealer. HH Randy

When I switched my wife's 705 to the 3khz coil she really started to find the silver.
