3 rings in one

This was an unusual find I almost passed up with the D2. Main ring is silver; the gold ring is 8k; and I have no idea what metal the third darker ring is. Any ideas?

Maybe platinum but it’s hard to tell just looking. Use a test kit if you have it.
Why did you almost pass it up?

Looks like a custom made ring. Best to take to jeweler or pawn shop for testing, No markings ??

You;; probably have to take apart to get the best price. Otherwise, you'll take a loss on the gold.

i thought it was a zinc penny, and on this day I was set to do some high tone cherry picking.
I know the feeling well about cherry picking. I hunt gravel parking lots when the beaches dont produce.
The zinc pennies are are beat to hell and not worth it to dig. I usually set my D1 to 89 and that does get rid of most of the zinc's.
Sometimes I wonder how many gold rings Ive walked over when I was cherry picking. You have to know your site and pick your battles !!
