305 with 6" HF DD finds merc

I picked up my X-Terra for the first time in a year in the hopes that the 6" HF DD coil would be sensitive enough to detect some silver chain a girl supposedly lost. I did not want to put my E-Trac down. I found my self examining every iron signal, and investigating select ones, especially one which bounced to 36. This one turned out to be a well worn mercury dime about 3 inches deep. 3 inches is getting kind of deep for detecting with any coil around here as sidewalk strip I was detecting is probably only hundreds of yards away from closed iron ore mines. This dime was probably at the limits of detection given the soil, the diameter of the coil used, and the signal bounce between -4 and 36.

Good recovery Ryan!

Makes me wonder how a 505 or 705 with the 6" LF DD would work. I know that the HF does well in the presence of conductive minerals (like salt), but @ iron infested sites I also am aware of how the "Digger's" response makes distinguishing good targets from bad easier, Hmmm...

I agree. I would prefer a MF DD coil, or even a 705 with the LF, but I could not resist the temptation to get a different frequency coil that was more sensitive to gold, since I already had a MF. There probably would be some difference between the three, but I am thinking it would be mild to middle, compared to switching to the small coil. If it were possible I would suggest an 8" 3khz coil.
