So as you all know, i bought a detector last year for my wife and I and I wanted to know if anyone thinks this is strange.
My CZ-3D is awesome, hands down. But for some reason, when I "air test" coins, it does not not pick stuff up far from the coil at all. Now I know thats not right because i religiously pull coins 2-4 inches down. In clay. I ground balance the best I can, but am I missing something?

As far as reading finds goes, do you guys dig everything or just the high coin hits?
It is pretty accurate as far as telling me what is in there.
 
Not sure about the air test. My CZ6A air tests to at least 6 inches on dimes, nickles, pennies and quarters with discrimination at zero or 1, sensitivity 4 or higher, using the 8 inch coil. Will do that in either salt or normal mode. Higher discrimination may affect things, but not sure about what you are seeing.

I pretty much dig it all above iron. I hope to find jewelry as well as coins. Frequently dig trash in the foil and tab range, but sometimes get that pleasant surprise.

My CZ6A air tests a dime at 9-10 inches. Try this with mid tones, which you should always pay attention to. So, when you get a good repeatable mid tone, pinpoint it to make sure you are right over the target. Now, move you r coil back and forth over the spot very slowly, Beep--------Beep---------Beep--------Beep. About 4 or 5 times.
if it stays locked on ring pul foil or pull tab 85-90% of the time that's what it is. If it jumps between mid tone simbles or mid to high tone DIG IT. Most times it will be good target. if it jumps from mid to low tone leave it most times, unless there is something telling you to take a look. But when your trying to get make a decision about digging, always pinpoint first. A couple of seconds pinpointing can save you a lot of time on your knees. If you are having trouble grd balancing using the bobbing method, use the pushbutton method. It is much easier and in most cases just as accurate.

P.S
Everything on the CZ6a or the CZ 5 applies to the CZ3D. The 3d just has an extra high tone, so 4 tones instead of three. On the 3d air test it should read a us clad dime at
10.5 - 11.5 inches. Grd bal 10, Disc 0. Sen 4.5, volume 10. If your not getting the dime at over 10", may have a problem with the detector. Real hot ones will air test a dime at 12"
 
Something wrong with your unit as surely should double or triple the air tests you are getting..CZ is one of the few units not affected by high discrimination and got some of my deepest silver with it maxed. As far as diggers visit your local detector dealer and he should have a variety to pick from..Garden tools just don't hold up and usually break quickly...
 
Well i just changed the batteries in her and she is reading dime at what looks to be about six inches.
With the gb at 10, disc at 0, sens at 4-5 and volume at 5. It does not air test at all, you can wave a dime at the coil and nothing happens. If you turn the knob to gb 1 or so, it picks up a dime a 6 inches. I sent Fisher Labs an e-mail and found that there is an authorized service center about a half hour from me. Guess where I am going tomorrow!
 
As far as trying to do the bobbing method i cant figure it out. Is there any way I might have inadvertently messed it up? Like getting it "stuck" in some weird ground balancing thing? Auto tune dosen't produce anything normally. When I try the "bobbing" method and I put it into Autotune i dont get a hum at all, anywhere on the controls. Am I doing something wrong or should this be addressed by a pro?
 
Thejetman, when you go to service center see if someone can give you a demonstration of how to use that machine, 2 to 4 inches is not very good in ground depth for that detector unless you are in some crazy mineralized Ground . You didn't mess it up, i just think you need someone to show you how to set it up. that's why dealing with a local dealer is important.
 
Well I took it in today. The lady says that it seemed out of adjustment. She was going to contact Fischer for the tuning details, so hopefully by tomorrow I will know what the skinny is on it. I spoke with a Fisher rep on the phone today also, he said that it just sounded like some adjustments needed to be made to it. No biggie. Will se how it all pans out.
 
Update
I have not heard back from her yet. So hopefully its just outta tune and she is going to fix it, call me to pick it up and bam, its over. But my luck never ends like that.
 
Bad news, the local Fisher lady said that my detector had to be shipped back to Texas to have it tuned, and worked on. I guess it was messed up bad. Any one here have any god/bad luck with there warranty department? I hate having to ship stuff back, cause you never know whats going to happen. It is one month out of the one year warranty, do you think I will have to pay anything for these services? At any rate, I will keep everyone posted as to how this all goes down.
In the meantime, HH everyone. For I am detector-less at the moment
 
My repair experience was amazing. My CZ3d was never quite right when new, but was still working with some special effort.
I put off sending it back and was nervous about the results but right before Christmas I gave up and shipped it. I contacted
Fisher in advance and got a return authorization and that gave me a name and email contact.
My detector was back in less than three weeks and we were celebrating Christmas and New Years during that time.
It looks great and air tests well. Unfortunately, I am in Indiana where it was minus 1 today. Probably a good month or
two before I can test it outside. Good luck with your repairs, I think you will be happy, but keep us posted.

Bad news, my detector is gone missing. The lady I took It to sent it to Fisher. But Fisher dosen't have it. So now I have to find out what is going on.

Well she says its enroute, Fisher says they don't have it yet. This is the reason why I hate sending things back. I was informed that it had a five year warranty so thats' good. I just want it to perform like advertised, its a great machine. When I called Fisher's service center in Texas, the guy I talked to seemed like a d@#$. Now all I can do is wait, and it sucks because the weather has warmed up and I have some extra time. Darn.
 
I was wondering how deep has anyone got with the standard 8" coil lets say in a local park.
Also I keep getting solid smooth beeps to find only a rusty nail. Is this normal.
 
Duece, There are alot of tricks with iron if you search any of these forums you will find them. My two deepest coins an1853 half dime at 11 in 1851 silver 3 cent piece at 10 in and many deep wheat and Indian head cents at 10 and 11 in range that is very deep for coin sized objects for any detector. I have had a lot of time to do some "scouting" so when it gets here, I am out the door! I will post info on how it is when I get it. I am interested to see what they did to remedy the problem.
 
IT CAME BACK TODAY!:bouncy: I am going to go check it out at a local park I found by scouting around. They replaced the coil, and re-tuned it from the inside out. It picks up a clad quarter at 12 inches in the air!:hot: Thanks :fisher:!:cheekkiss:
