#4 for 2007, #99 Lifetime

I found my 4th Large Cent yesterday afternoon, which brings my total lifetime up to 99 Largies.

I past the 100 mark on pre 1799 and earlier coins several years ago, but getting to that mark on Large Cents has been a tougher goal.

Hopefully this upcoming week I can get number 100, sure would be nice if it were the Chain Cent, but I will settle for any one of them. :)

Then time to concentrate again on Colonial era coppers and silver.

I found this coins walking back to my truck after failing to find a way to a homestead by a backdoor entrance, so just before I got to my truck I saw a very small, narrow stream and it had some detectable high ground next to it.

As soon as I got near the bank, I got the high pitch reading, crosshairs solid upper right, but the depth was only about 2-4 inches!

Being close to a paved road, I was almost sure it was not going to be an old copper but to much delight, just under the humus layer, only about 2 inches down was the coin. A decent 1827 Coronet Large Cent.

So far in January, I have found a 1802, 1822, 1827 and a 1829 Large Cent.

Greetings Don,
What a very impressive collection of colonial coins. Here in Pensacola I have only found one 1749 George II copper in very worn shape. I'm sure there are more to find. Your area is a awesome place to hunt colonials, as per your success. Hope you keep those wonderful posts coming. Happy Hunting Grounds,

I'd give all my LC, British and US and throw in a few reals for one of those belt plates...or even a chance to detect a battlefield. Those relics are so much a part of history. Ron

we are one slot left for my spring outing to be determined later. I have to go talk with some landowners, check out a few locations before hand, and play with mother nature.... So, I cannot guarentee you to find one of those, but I know by staying home it will not happen. I know relics will be dug, but cannot guarentee anything but a good time and meeting new friends. I will say this, I don't go out on these yearly trips to waste my time...Some wasting is done, but you will be put on to high possibilities of decent relics...Goal for this hunt is, relics, coins, gold, and some Indian artifacts. So, this offer is for the last slot to fill in our small group (5 or 6 folks). Only thing one needs to know is that we all share the food and gas costs. Offer for the last slot is extended to you sometime in the May/June time frame. Let me know via email.

BTW, I also will guarentee that no LC's will be found on the trip..but one never knows.
