4x6 DD Shooter Coil

Is it worth it?? I have the stock 950 and the 5.3 Eclipse thinking about adding the 4X6 DD Shooter Eclipse Coil. Or should I think about other choices Thanks for the support guys.

I would think there could be a better pick. Personally, I prefer the 5.3 Eclipse on the M6 and MXT to the Shooter coil as it works about as well in trash, but gets better depth and doesn't require a slower sweep speed. TID is very good, and the depth of detection is just about what I get out of the 950.

For me and my types of hunting, I've gone with the 10" D[sub]2[/sub] coil for most open area searches as it compliments the 6'-6

Since you have the 5.3 I would go with the 6 X 10 DD. Out of all my coils I use it 75% of the time, works well in trashy areas and mineralized soils, to me it's the perfect all round coil....
It's also a great coil for gold prospecting............

I have a White's 4x6 DD coil and it sits in a drawer and I have not had it out for years. I have never really cared for it because of how small it is and that you have to go very slow as not to miss any targets. You already have a great coil for hunting high trash areas that being the White's 5.3 Eclipse. I agree with Hillbilly Bob, go for the White's 6x10 DD coil you won't regret it. It is a very versitile coil and can be used in trashy areas as well as out in the open. I use it most of the time. Good luck with your decision. HH Dennis in Idaho

Ahhhhh I just have to disagree with everyone here. The 4x6 is my FAVORITE coil. I just love it. Yes it is slow and doesn't get the coverage as a big coil but if you are at all in trashy areas, it separates so well. I also have the small round eclispe but much prefer the 4x6....

I have the 4X6 coil and love it. It works great for me in trashy areas. I have found many coins as deep as 7 inches. Our soil is pretty sweet here and that may make a difference. Of course it slows you down covering an area but you feel you have covered it well. My hunting buddy has a 5.3 coil and seldom uses it. He prefers his 9.50 coil. But to each his own. I am hoping for a 6X10 for my birthday.

I have the 4x6 & the 6x10 both when I got my machine it had the 6x10 on it & I thought it was great. Started using the 4x6 and began finding all kinds of stuff. The 4x6 stays on the mxt most of the time except for when I am hunting a new larger area, then I put on the 6x10 until I find the spot. I have done a few test with both & am thinking about getting a 6" excelerator, I think it will beat them both not only quicker swing speed than the 4x6 but better depth. Swing speed is the only thing about the 4x6 I don't like. If you are looking for deep stuff u have to go real slow, and the 6x10 picks up to many signals and is faster not only because of its size but you can get away with swinging it faster. I stll have not talked to anyone that has all three to compare how they are different.

Bula I have all three coils and this is my opinion of the three. The 4x6 coil is a good coil , nobody is disputing that, but mother nature has already slowed me down enough so I don't need a piece of equipment slowing me down further if you know what I mean. I just don't care for its size its poor ground coverage and its slow sweep speed. In my soil conditions here in Idaho the 6" Excelerator gives me a little more ground coverage at a quicker sweep speed and its ability to separate targets in high trash areas is as good if not better than 4x6. I have dug targets in the 8 inch range with it which I think is better than the 4x6. My opinion again. The White's 6x10 coil one of my favorites works well in trashy areas and has good target separation and has a comfortable sweep speed and has good ground coverage out in the open. Its just a good overall coil. I think the 6" Excelerator and the White's 6 x10 are about equal in depth detection its just that the 6x10 has better coverage. Now mind you these are my opinions on these three coils and I am sure other have their own opinions of these coils based on their hunting styles and ground conditions in their own perspective areas. I can't disagree with you Dennis. The 6" Excelerator is about as small as I want to go in my hunting. The targets here is Texas are shallower than back at home and the 6x10 works fine. At home in Illinois I like the 10" DD for the added depth. Ron if you already have the 5.3 I don't see why my next coil would be the 4x6. Rob

Well, I have all the coils mentioned except for the D2 than Monte mentions. Like several others, I use the 6X10 a fair bit, seldom ever use the stock 9.5 and use the 5.3 most of the time the 6X10 isn't on my MXT. All that said, in my opinion and experience to date, the 4X6 outshines them all in
HEAVY trash, including the 5.3. Yes, it does cover less ground and gives up some depth and forces one to hunt slowly and deliberately (not a bad thing), but if you have the patience, it will nose out the goodies from the trash pile. If you can afford it, get both. The times you can put the little guy to good use you'll be glad you have it in the arsenal. My two bits.

I will have to agree with BBill & dirtdigginlady on the 4x6 shooter coil.<p>I have gone back over areas with the 4x6 that I had hit with the bigger coils and found some good finds. <p>I had a 6x10 but sold it because I had trouble pin-pointing with it. <p>This is just my experience in the areas that I hunt.

I like the 4x6 for campgrounds, high traffic areas as fairgrounds and other places where there is a mad amount of trash. You lose a bit of depth with 4x6. Other than that my 6x10 is on 90% of the time.

Ultimately, in my opinion, the answer when comparing the 4X6 to the 5.3 comes down to really trashy areas. When It's very heavy trash, the 4X6 shooter will separate the goodies out better than the 5.3 even though the 5.3 is very good when compared to the larger coils in the same conditions. The 5.3 does have the advantage of enough depth and additional coverage to be a pretty useful coil for most general hunting and I use mine that way some of the time. I do hunt one park that is extreme trash city and I've been able to slowly and patiently pull out some goodies there by using the 4X6. I tried the 9.5 there once and nearly went insane at the constant barrage of hits whereas the 4X6 made it bearable and possible to hunt. Ever since that experience, I'll admit a bit of prejudice for the 4X6. If one can swing it, having a pretty complete coil selection really makes the MXT, M6, DFX series very versatile machines capable of handling nearly any detecting situation.
