5 inch coil for Delta 4000

Finally rcvd my 5 inch coil.
It was a long drawn out process!. I originally order it from Metal detectors.com but they sent what i thought was a defective coil but in fact it was a 5 inch coil for a t2. There are no labels on the coils coming from metal detector.com. So i sent it back to First Texas and they in turn sent me another 2t coil that was actually labeled this time, so once again i returned it for a coil for my 4000, well after a month i finally have rcvd the correct coil and took it for test drive in the back yard. Pinpoint is good. Seems to like all metals mode better the discrimination. So far the response is good and air test are promising. Next stop is the local park around the shelters that are just littered with trash. I do have to say with all the hick ups... customer service at both places were good

Went out to the local park for a field test or should i say Park test.
Found a few pennies.
5 inch coil seems to be very sensitive maybe even more so than the 8 inch coil.
Dug several deep targets but nothing but trash. Coil seems to overload on any target that comes to close ( any other experiences with this out there ? )

Delta 4000 runs very quiet in all metal mode now ( thats a good thing )

It's not uncommon for larger-size coils to be a little noisier than "standard" coils because they see more ground and they are often more prone to outside EMI. Smaller coil, while not always, will generally be less bothered by outside ground mineral or other interference since they are smaller and less susceptible to annoyance.

One problem many hobbyists have when using any search coil/detector combination, but especially when a smaller-size coil is mounted, is that they often sweep too quickly. If you do that then you might overload the circuitry system with too much ground signal and not let a desired target pass easily. learn each coil with a few sample targets to get the best 'feel' for a 'just right" sweep speed. This can especially be true with a small Double-D like the 5" Teknetics coil.

As for "overloading" and "back-reading" issues, these can often be associated with the coil worked too closely to the ground or, as with the 5" and 11" DD designs, it is often the tight DD pattern than can cause them to "act up" when too close to targets. Again, it's just something to master.

I think that in time you're going to enjoy the 5" DD coil just as much, if not more, than the stock 8" concentric design.
