5 Indians and a Barber at the park...

This was about my 20th trip to this park. It almost always gives me something in return for the long drive. This time was no exception. Thankfully the 1876 Indian Cent was the one in the best condition and grade! Also can anyone out there tell me by the point on the bust whether the 1864 is the one with the "L" or without? The point looks different than the others so I'm guessing it's the type without the "L" on the ribbon???
These were all found in a very iron infested area with the Sunray X-8 coil. Mostly using -15 iron mask on the XS, conductive sounds, 28 manual sensitivity, 9 gain, FAST on and DEEP on. I tried all metal with ferrous sounds for awhile but my eardrums started hurting real fast.

Really nice, Neal!! :clapping: Not even a wheatie or merc or rosie? Yeah, that place must be hunted hard!! I love going back to the really old, producing parks...they always seem to give up the oldies!!

I didn't know you hunted with both filters, FAST and DEEP, on. I'd imagine you've been detecting a long time with your XS, and know your machine about as well as anyone else with years of use. A Minelab guy (Des Dunne) said that it defeats the purpose of the two filters to run both of them at the same time, and to expect erratic results by using both simultaneously. I'd imagine you'd be in complete disagreement about that. Just look at your results.

Congrats again,

I can't swear to it but I learned from the best that fast and deep gives you some of each BUT if you want the most depth DEEP on only would be the way to go. Also if you want the fastest response the FAST on only would be the way to go. Now you've motivated me to go back over that spot with FAST on only.
Maybe even with a 5" coil!!!!
Thanks,
Neal

...And I did find plenty of silver with that setting, but eventually, I turned that filter off because I noticed that on the real deep targets, or targets in areas of high ground mineralization, I would get a very, very narrow response (a little chirp) on the deeper signals. To me, it is barely recognizable from chirpy iron. With that filter off, deeper signals were more pronounced (a full bodied sound). I never did use that filter again, and never felt I was missing out. Maybe on the XS, it is not as pronounced, but on the SE, I get a tiny, chirpy hit on deep targets.

I had tried DEEP ON also, but couldn't get used to the delay in response on the deepies. My machine felt sluggish, less responsive, with that filter ON. I just couldn't hunt with the delayed response. I also found I wasn't getting any better signal enhancement on the deepies(7"+ targets), if my gain was already boosted up (8 or better). I tested this countless times on a deep target with high gain settings....no difference.

But I feel that what's most important is to "believe" that the settings we use really work for us.....have full confidence in them....if we start finding deepies with a certain setting, we're most likely to use those settings on future hunts.

Okay, you did get some wheats, and they're all oldies too!! :super:

Thanks, Neal!! Good luck with the 5" !!

you use ferrous sounds. Then you can listen for that small change in PITCH.

Good to see you still popping out some Oldies. Congrats on the 64 and 76 Injuns. Those are toughies to find in this neck of the woods. Congrats with the Barber Dime also. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.

Here's a pic for ya.
Congrats on the finds.

Good ones bud. You are tuned into the XS

Neil you always seem to impress me. I know I didn't find anything that day, but I always enjoy hunting with you and watching you work that xs. Just so everyone knows we were pretty much set up the same except he likes to run his iron mask alot lower than I. MY point is, Neil knows his machine and what it's telling him a true master of the XS. I'm not afraid to say he found at least one of those indians in an area that I had already went over. If you ever get a chance to hunt with him you'll find out he's a great guy and a coin finding master. Just don't take him to your hot spot cause he'll leave it empty LOL.

where do you run the im. i tried neil's settings yesterday but as soon as i got to -15 the machine really started chattering. i tried it a very short time but lowered it to -12. it seemed to quite down some but never did find anything. thanks.
