I dug 5 crusty black rings yesterday, but as always if they have been in a lake a long time, there is a surprise under all that crust! The first one was straightened out and actually came out with some coins I scooped up. Not one of them appeared to be gold.

I got plenty of fishing stuff including an open face reel, and three lures. Also by the car is a brass pocket watch piece with a date of 1890 on it.

While using electrolosis my biggest surprise was that this little beauty was 14K with a garnet. As you can see the garnet is pretty much gone.

Here is the best transformation though! Big crusty class ring turned into a sterling beauty!

Compare this pic out with the one at the top. This is a before and after cleaning.
The first is the big silver class ring, #2 is an antique brass ring missing a stone that I have an exact match to, #3 is the 14K w/garnet, #4 is a thin sterling ring, and #5 is a new one on me! It is made of lead! Sorry about the dark pic!
