5 x 10 DD x- Terra Coil

Is this the same coil Minelab calls High (18.75Hz)? The one suited for shallow targets?

I am currently at Vero Beach and seeking the most Depth I can get from this unit. If this is the same coil then the dept is a problem for me as I am also hoping upon a deeper Spanish coin somewhere along the beach.

I own all the Minlabs 3000-1000-800- Explorer so forth, but I am liking this X-terra a lot. But like everyone I do seek the depth. I am not sure if this coil 5x10DD is another coil or their shallow coil?

If its different when did it show up? Is the standard 7.5 best for depth if that is the same coil?

Thanks,

The 5X10 DD coil currently available for the X-Terra 70/50 is 18.75 kHz. It's purpose is to be more sensitive to smaller gold and to tolerate mineralized ground better. Will you see a HUGE difference in depth? I don't believe so if you are using it on a wet sand beach, especially if it is salt. The DD coil will tolerate the conditions better allowing it to be more sensitive. There is also a 3 kHz concentric coil available for the X-Terra 70. This will gain you maybe a couple of inches but will have a lot of trouble dealing with the conditions of a wet salt beach. With all coils available for the X-Terra 70, you should get 10"-12" depth if you are using the right coil and settings for that particular situation.

I will take a stab at the coils currently available in the USA from Minelab Dealers, others correct me if I'm wrong.

9" 3 kHz concentric - low/med mineralization - Hot on high conductivity items.
9" 7.5 kHz concentric - low/med mineralization - general purpose coin/jewelry.
9" 18.75 khz concentric - low/med mineralization - hot on low conductivity items (nickels, gold, lead)

5x10 DD 18.75 kHz - high mineralization - hot on low conductivity items a must for anyone hunting small nuggets in bad ground

X-Terra Owners wish list:

4" 7.5 kHz concentric - low/med mineralization - good for trashy areas
5x10 DD 7.5 kHz - high mineralization - general purpose coin/jewelry
7x12 DD 18.75 kHz - high mineralization - larger, deeper gold nuggets.

You are right on the money with what you say, Richetts. The 18.75kHz DD coil was just released by Minelab within the past few weeks. I have them in stock, and have a couple of customers who rave about their performance. It is basically (internall) the same coil as the 5" x 10" DD coil for the Eureka Gold Machine, but rewired for the X-Terra 70. MSRP is $149.95, but we offer discounts for the Finds Treasure Forum members.

Thanks a bunch for clearing it all up.

So far 7.5 kHz is working great for me on the Treasure Coast. I thought maybe this new coil may have been a superior depth coil, but I understand now. I work the area pretty hard and find a lot of clad that has been in the sand for awhile. Considering the work out this side of Florida's Coast gets I think that is a testament to the Minelab equipment. A few days ago I found two ounces of silver cast as a giant Sharks Tooth. Pretty cool piece.

as LF machines tend to handle the wet conductive salts better than the VLF's. Many still use the Fisher 1280 in Florida which I believe runs around 2.8 Khz or so.
