5 x 10 Joey Coil

TONE JUNKY

New member
Hey Guys, I'm looking into buying the 5 x 10 Joey coil to add to my arsenol of coils. But, I've only had one person tell me that he didn't like the coil compared to others. I'm seeking as many opinions on this as possible. I already have the 4.5 x 7 & it is a great coil. I also have the 8 x 10 Minelab coil. It is good, but I bought the 8 x 10 Excelerator coil & was not happy with it. I use the X2 & have the 10.5 stock coil. Oh yes I also have the 5" excelerator coil & I am very happy with it.

Thanks for your opinions.

Rick Hervey (Tone Junky)

I traded mine for an X-8 and wish I still had the Joey too. Great separation!!!!

of course you want to use it in Water. The Joey Coil is Not Waterproof unless you Silicone the Cable area that goes into the Coil itself. Even then, there isn't a guarantee that it won't leak down the road. Other than that, the Joey Coil is very versatile and can be used in really Trashy Areas with success if the user goes from a regular swing speed to a crawl. I don't know if you seen how well I was doing with it about a Month ago, but I found between 70-80 Silver in an Old Fairgrounds with the Joey Coil. The Stock Coil couldn't see the Coins due to all the Iron and Trash in the ground. This Fairgrounds was already Heavily Pounded by the Explorer's from 2 friends I know and they thought that they had pretty much gotten what was there. After all the Silver I started popping out of the ground, he still can't believe that the Joey Coil was finding that many along with the Wheat's, Nickels, and other Coin, Jewelery, and Relic finds. Now the Joey Coil is on his Want List. I was getting a Good 8" and a bit deeper with the Coil without much of a problem with Signals. If you get one Tone Junky, and you try it in a Trashy Environment, remember to Go Slow and have Fast On, Deep Off with a Setting of 22 Manual or Semi-Auto. I used Semi-Auto when I found all the recoveries. The Joey Coil is the 2nd Coil that I use besides the Stock 10.5". Good Luck and HH to you.

James, thanks for the info. After hearing that, I may go ahead & get that coil, afterall. If so, I would like to talk to you one on one about the coil & others. Let me know if that interests you.

What machine are you using?

I have the X2

I agree with Bryce ,I have both, sounds like you have all the coils covered so why buy another if it not their with the coils you have it not their to find.I like my Joey but like to use the 6" some of my best finds came from the joey but that was my first small coil.Hope this helps.

I've helped out many here with Settings and other tips as well. Most recently, I have helped out Grumpy in getting to know his machine better and now is starting to learn it at a more faster rate. Any questions, feel free to PM me anytime. Good Luck and HH TONE JUNKY!

I hunt with though and they all make some incredible finds with that 6" Excelerator coil. I have the 4.5 x 7" excelerator and use it most of the time in trash spots and then the Joey coil in semi trashy areas. It shocks me to see what the 6" coil pulls out of trash for them but I already have the Joey and the 4 x 7.

Thanks fro your opinion. I use the 4.5 x 7 most of the time & really like it. The areas I hunt in are very trashy. But, I've heard a lot about the 6" excel coil & I'm leaning toward that one. I can't afford both so I have to make a decision on one.

thanks, again for the opinion

After pulling that many Silver and other nice finds from that Fairground, when ever I am with Tim or Dan and I put the Joey Coil on, they say "look out, he's got the Joey on and he's going to start popping the Silver". It's a Hot Coil when you get some time in on using one. Only thing better would be a 5" Coil in Super Trashy Areas. Next Spring, I intend on going back to the Fairgrounds with a 5" Coil or maybe even the 4X7 Coil when I either purchase or borrow one from Rick(ND) to see what I may or may not have passed up with the Joey Coil. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving Bob and Good Luck and HH to you.
