Had plans this AM to hit an area of our soccer field that has recently been laid with new fill. Around here, fill can be a trove, so I always like to sample any topsoil fill that I spy. But, the Latinos were starting to show up for their weekly 'futbol' games, so that was out. My Spanish aint THAT good.
So I went to the tot-lot adjacent to the baseball fields (ours is a multiplex of athletic endeavor) and scored some coinage. Then I took another stab at "The Hillocks," as I call them. These are mounds behind every baseball diamond backing the 3 tier bleachers, surrounded by retaining walls.
As you can see by the results, they are coin banks. The number of quarters is staggering and I got to where I just quit digging anything else. The GTP 1350 is very good at ID'ing at these depths, and I had little doubt when it announced a coin.
The only problem is, my pinpointing skills arent up to the task. Basically a woods and sand digger, I have never developed my probe & lever techniques to the level needed for this type of hunting.
Too, the stock coil on the 1350 isn't the greatest for needlepoint targeting. I have to be conscious of my digging in these areas and I wasnt doing so hot on dimes, so I stuck with quarters by the end. Besides, the coins were deeper than I first imagined, some 3-4." No problem for ID'ing, but that requires a deft touch and spot-on PP'ing. A dime at 4" is pretty easy to miss.
I think I need the services of a sniper coil. Whadda you think?

This is the tot-lot. I love these little "pocket playgrounds," as they get tons of usage and there is no place for anything to be but right there!
You can see one of the hillocks behind the slide, just beyond the lampost. Behind THAT, just off camera to the right, are the bleachers facing the diamond and the retaining wall. Coins are all over these things, especially along the bottoms near those walls. Plenny coins are right there along the retention stones, where people sit - between the grass and the stones themselves. Spill Bill heaven!

Heres' a view of the soccer field. In the background you can see one of the central athletic complexes, with FIVE baseball diamonds surrounding it, pentagon fashion. We currently have 2 of these complexes, with another being built and yet another in the planning!
Our tax dollars at work!

And here are the gleanings from about 90 minutes worth of work. I didnt make my 50, but I wont complain...
