505 users! Where are you?:confused:

I see a ton of posts from the 705 people on here and I am beginning to feel lonely. Post up and tell me some good or even bad stuff about the 505. I just upgraded from a 305 not too long ago (thanks to Richard at Backwoods)
Anyway , let me here from you. I have checked youtube,MLOtv and there isn't alot on these sites about the 505. I have had her out a few times and so far I have only found a few pennies and some pull tabs/trash. My KillerB's will be back here in a few days from an upgrade so I am really looking forward to using them with the 505.

I have been working lousy hours as of late and when I have had a day off , it rains I have been out a couple of times with my 505 and found a few zincoln memorials and old pull tabs. I am also learning this machine as I go. Thanks for posting It was getting lonely on here with just 705 users.

Na, no pictures. Found , 12" tent peg, part of an ore lock, 2 clad pennys, and a lg old spoon with a 1923 pat date. was the first time for the wife mding, She loved it and can,t wait to go again.

im a 505 user, my frst detector, got it this past Jan. love it, i use the 18.75 kHz small coil and it is a tolot SLAYER!!! great detector!!!!

New 505 user. I won it at the Texas Council Hunt this weekend. I took it out 1st time today for a test drive.
Came in with about $2.50 in clad. Seems like it's going to be an easy machine to get used to.
It's also my first Minelab machine.

Strictly my opinion......... if the X50 would have initially come out with all the additional functionality of the 505, it would be a whole different ballgame. When Minelab added the multiple tone mode and the ability to use all three frequencies of coils, it made the 505 a BIG TIME player. If a person doesn't use tracking features or doesn't mind having 3 digit notch segments instead of 2 digit notches, the 505 stacks up quite nicely with the 705. In fact, if you take the time to maintain the proper ground balance, the -9 ferrous notch segment will "identify" deep iron better than the 705. (which only goes down to -8 ) You have a great detector. Set it up properly and it will hunt with the best of them. HH Randy

I found the chart showing the numbers that identify the different types of coins on the x-Terra detectors, but I couldn't find one that includes pull tabs, screw caps and pry caps etc.

Is there one? That could make a big difference in how many digits are in each of the notches if the discrimination system is halfway reliable.

I've not put together any particular chart for pulltabs, screwcaps, etc for a couple reasons. One is that the TID will vary on many of them, depending on the type and manufacturer. For example, I continue to dig Pepsi product screw caps thinking they will be a quarter. For some odd reason, I seldom dig a Coke product screw cap. Either folks aren't drinking as much Coke around here as they are Pepsi. Or the metal used in manufacturing the caps is different. Second, I was afraid if I made a chart showing the TID numbers of typical "trash" items, folks would notch them out and miss some good jewelry finds.

I did, however, write an article entitled "Ever wonder what you're missing?". Minelab posted it on their Treasure Talk blog site and the links are available in the FAQFAQ section near the top of these forum posts.

While Nigel is showing Marty his Marshall guitar amplifiers, he points out one in particular whose control knobs all have the highest setting of eleven (unlike standard amplifiers, whose volume settings are typically numbered from zero to ten), believing that this numbering actually increases the volume of the amp ("It's one louder"). When Marty asks why the ten setting is not simply set to be louder, Nigel pauses, clearly confused, before responding, "These go to eleven".

Over the years, I've owned White's machines as well as Garretts, Tesoro's and Teknetics. A few years back, I bought an Minelab X-terra 70 and, after getting to know its capabilities, absolutely loved it. Well...I sold the X-70 and bought a Minelab Safari and hunted with it all this last season. Fantastic machine! Because of physical limitations, I sold the Safari recently and bought a new X-terra 505. Essentially it's an X-705 w/o pinpoint sizing and prosperctor modes. I haven't hunted with my 'New' X-terra 505, as of yet, but I'm looking forward to it and am sure it's going to be a great detector. The stuff I found with my old X-70 was remarkable; more thab I ever found with any other machine. I'm confindent enough, with the X-terra's, that I will boldly state this: once you hunt with a Minelab, you'll likely not ever hunt with anything else.
