6 Hour field test of the new 6 x 8 SEF Coil. Is it any good??....

Thanks James. With the way my work schedule is this year....I might be postin' more dirty coins in the future. I will sneak in as many hunts as I can...but may not be able to clean them like I want to:detecting:
I hope the snow goes away for you soon.

I LOVE THIS COIL TO BRYCE I DUG INJUNS AT 8-9 INCHS WITH GOOD ID :yikes: NICE POST BRYCE  LETS GO FIND SOME MORE SILVER SOON BUDDY :super:

I still hadn't changed my settings from big coil to small coil.
I couldn't hit my 8" dime amidst trash in my test garden...and got ticked off:confused:...but once I dialed in the settings needed... the coil started to fill the pouch.
If I can get done with work before lunch...I'll give you a buzz.
Later bro

You didn't make a comment regarding soil condition for the 6 X 8 hunt. Was the soil more moist due to rains than with the 6" coil hunt? Some conditions are just better... and since you didn't mention any changes, can we assume all conditions were equal?

when using the 6" Excelerator coil. It didn't matter whether the soil was wet...or dry. I was able to hit coins as deep as 9" with it...and 7" to 8" coins were the norm. I hunted with it extensively with it for months and put 100's of hours on it. In my area...soil/ground condition made absolutely no difference.

As for the 6 x 8 coil...as I stated in the post...it was the initial test run with it...and it did quite well. As for what it will do for me over an extended time period remains to be seen...but I was definately impressed.

This time of year...the ground is very moist here in IL...and was when the 6 x 8 was tested over this 6 hour period.

Silverfix, availability might influence you. I just waited two months for a 6" Excelerator coil to come in from (they said) Bulgaria. If I had a shot at the 6x8 (or had known of it) I might have gone for that instead just to avoid the wait.

Well Bryce I have read this thread several times over the past week and I just placed my ordered for this coil. I have been wanting to get a smaller coil for sometime now as a lot of my sites have sections with a lot of iron and I just know that there is a few coins mixed in with it. This will be my 2nd coil for my SE Pro and I know it will be a great addition. Thanks for the great review and keep us posted if you learn anything new.

I will be putting more hours on it. It is such a pain to keep changing coils over to rods...and so much easier when I already have the coil setup on a rod and ready to pop on the SE. Hopefully I can now hit some trash sites and spend a little more time with this coil.

Bryce,
Sounds like the 6x8 SEF would be a good replacement for my broken coil on my Explorer II. YES?

I agree, my first experience with my new SEF was on Saturday. My very first target was a King George lll Irish variety copper. It was retrieved at 8" depth in a lot of iron near a cellar hole. I ran the stock coil in that spot and it was solid null. The cellar hole is right off the main road so it has been pounded time and time again by other detectorists. I let my partner use the coil and he found a nickel sized tombac button at a depth of 8". I am very impressed at the depth and separation this coil has. I think depth coverage could be attributed to the double D arrangement which provides coverage at depth compared to a concentric which cones down to a small coverage at depth. I used it on my Minelab Explorer ll.

Thanks For the info. Bryce
Planning on buying a minelab E-Trac and hunt around old house places so I that coil.
Thanks, BridgeHunter

Have you pretty much switched to the Etrac for your hunts in general ?????????????

Not at all Elton.

I'm trying to use both equal amounts of time. I'm thankful I have the opportunity to use both...so I'm taking advantage of it.

I am using these machines just as I do the various coils I have.

I also still try and put time on the Explorer 2 which I bought off of Guvner.

I think each of these 3 machines has traits which make them special. The EX2 is smooooth in iron.....the SE has raw power...and the E-Trac seems to be a balance of both.
