7.5 dd coil or 18.75 dd coil?

Hello guys i have the gold pack , im thinking on buying 7.5 dd coil, which coil is better for old coins at depths at 5 inches to 10 , im tired of getting tiny stuff? and the 7.5 dd coil can get gold rings?

Thanks!!!!

For what you're after, the 7.5kHz DD would be the next logical coil to have. It has the most uniform target segment bins, so it will have the most honest TID's.

It will hit gold rings fine, but will miss the earring backs. Fine gold chains will be more easily missed or passed off as foil. But coins and other high conductors will hit harder than with the coil you have now. And a 10.5" MF DD will go deeper than the 5x10" HF in most ground. IMO, the 5x10" gives you the depth of a 5" and the coverage of a 10", whereas the 10.5" gives you the depth of a 10.5".

Hi Littlenugget, I gather you have the 705 and it is a great detector. When I made my purchase I received a 7.5 coil and the 18.75 coil in the package. I have used the 7.5 with good success on coins and have had a lot of fun picking up small gold nuggets with the 18.75 coil. The 7.5 coil will give you both a coin detector and a great gold nugget detector by just changing coils. Do a lot of research on the operation of the 705 and it will be hard for anyone to find more treasures with other kinds of detectors. There are many great ideas on the forum as how to tweak the 705 for better and better performance. The more you use the 705, the better you will like it. :detecting:

For coin & relic hunting I'd definitely go with 10.5 MF DD...especially since you already have the 5x10 HF DD. Then, get yourself the new LF 6" DD and you've got the bases covered to handle most everything you would need to do. I have found my MF DD to be much deeper than the stock 9" MF CC (I have not used my stock CC coil since getting the 10.5 MF DD). Although it's only a guess, I would say my 10.5 MF DD is probably 3+ inches deeper than a stock MF CC, but some of the difference may be due to the mineralization level of the soil I hunt. For trashy areas, I use the 6" HF DD but only because the 6" LF wasn't available when I bought mine. Just an opinion...

Good luck!
