7 Inch Coil

Trying to decide between the concentric or wide-scan coil for the Cortes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well that is a good question. I have the 7" Concentric and really like it on my Eldorado.
A couple Sundays ago I dug 38 coins 11 of which were nickels in just over an hour with it. Highest Nickel count I ever had for one outing.
I have two Widescan coils CSC & 11" and the stock 8X9 & 7" concentric.
That big 11" coil does not seem to greatly increase depth over stock coil on coin size objects. and is tricky to pinpoint with.
I think the only way I would choose a Widescan is if I were dealing with High Mineral soil.
In moderate soil the Concentric will shoot deeper and pinpoints much better.
IMHO
Good luck!!

Hi Jim:
Thanks for the info. Sounds like you are doing pretty well with the concentric. I had not thought about the effect of ground mineralization. It can be pretty bad here in NW. GA.

Don: I have heard many say that the red Georgia Soil could be challenging. Since I am in Iowa where we have very little mineralization, I have no experience. I only know what I have read about the widescan or DD coils handling mineralized soil better.
In fact I have yet to hit a hot rock! About the only iron other than man-made in this area is Glaicial Drift and most of that is north of my area. You might want to talk to someone in your immediate area and see whats working there before you make a decision?
