705 Maiden Voyage

I'm new to this forum and to the 705. Just received it last week. Other than testing out some targets in the back yard today was my first time out with it. I was using the 6" 7.5 coil today. I went to a field that was bean stubble with an inch or so of snow. There used to be a one room shool there. The ground was frozen enough that digging to 5" was a chore and getting past that didn't happen today. I started with near full sensitivity and 99 tones in all metal. My first several targets were high tones that read 46 to 48 and the ones I found were old sqare nails. Because it was so hard digging I gave up on few of them. Then I got a clear tone that was higher than the low iron tone. Out came a small gold? ring. I soon switched to 4 tones and for now it seemed easier for me than the 99 tones had been. Another clear tone was the back to an old wrist watch. Then a high tone and a wheat penny. I have to say the little six inch was a hot coil and good targets were unmistakable, unlike the square nails had been. A while later came a high tone that got a double beep one way and 90 degrees sweep was a solid beep. The numbers were in the low 40s. About 4 to 5" deep out came a 1927 quarter. I'm guessing it was on edge, causing the double beep. The hunt also produced another wheat. My final target was another double beep one direction and 90 degrees a solid beep, which was a Merc.(Again I am guessing the double beep was caused by the coin being on egdge. It was so hard digging that it was hard to confirm this. The coin was down 3 to 5" so I don't think the double beep was caused by being too close to the surface) Me and a buddy had already hit this site hard with our T2s about a month ago, and I had went back for another clean up with my T2 a couple of weeks ago. So I was glad to find anything here. So far 2 thumbs up for the 705.

First, a warm welcome to our forum.

Then congratulations on the field finds!

You've already discovered one of the biggest advantages of the 705. If something isn't working, or you don't like the response you're getting, simply change something. The Xterra has enough auto/manual adjustable options, that along with frequency and coil configuration choices allow it to be effectively tailored to most sites and targets sought.

Congrat's on the SLQ and Merc

I know one thing I wouldn't even try to MD a field with as bad as the ground is froze, lol. I'm getting to old for that anymore... It's ice fishing time :)

I agree Mark. It is just hard to let a new machine set in the closet for a couple of months. Also after reading all about X-Terras and now having one, I just had to see what all the hoopla was about. For me finding a couple of silvers the first time out was a pretty good run. The X-Terra is easy to pick up on and delivers the goods.

Good for you. Glad you aren't letting a little frozen ground stop you and your new toy. Those are some great finds and sounds like a good spot to go back to when the ground thaws. Good hunting
