705 PP stays on

Ok, when detecting in my yard with my new 705, I setup my nc and gb, detect in am mode, pp and my pp stays on and the audio keeps on even after I move the coil away. Reset to PF, tried it again, same thing. Tried another spot, worked fine. Moved to another spot, detected target, pp, and pp stayed on again. Reset nc and gb, then seemed to work ok at that spot. Then I hit the tracking button and it seemed to work ok no matter which spot I tried. Any clues to why the PP would lock on and stay on?

After you use pin point hit the detect button. It will go off.

Yes but I can't pinpoint with it when it does this because it stays on so you don't know where the target actually is located. I can turn it off but it shouldn't stay on after pp'ing a target. When you move it off the target it should stop sounding. When it acts up, it keeps sounding after moving it off target, even lifting it up in the air.

I'd suspect you are hitting the PP button when another target is under the coil. Setting PP with a target under the coil will cause the Pinpoint audio to mask out all other targets. Move the coil to a spot without a target under the coil to assure a proper Pinpoint. If you set the Factory default, I'd also suggest you change to Pinpoint Sizing instead of PP Auto. PPSizing allows you to determine the location of the target, the approximate size, the approximate shape, much like Prospecting mode. But PP Sizing also provides TID where as Prospecting does not.

I emailed you a more detailed explanation.

I have had the same problem. To the point that when coil is lifted even a few feet off the ground it is still sounding off. I attribute this to EMI. Kind of a pain, but not always a problem and even when it is, it will reset when I go back to detect. It would seem to me that part if the problem is that a feed back loop develops and will not clear untill you go back to decect.

I had that problem with my 705 (2 mos old). Even when I was off target it would continue to pp. Then it started to gb up to 99 and give an overload audio tone. I couldn't even manually set it. I Tried a system reset, cleaned coil etc. etc. etc. It was acting very erattic. Finally called Minelab and they told me to send it in. I did that and they replaced the entire keypad and battery connections (under warantee). They recalibrated the coil and sent it back to me (btw all within 1 mo). All is good now. But the down time was painfull. I would certinly try a complete reset of your 705, replace batteries and clean the coil skid. Maybe that will help. scott

Also have the same issue. Brand new 705 and about 1 out of every ten times i go to pinpoint it does the same thing and it's very irritating  Tried a diff coil and same thing! Kevin from ML thought it could be what he called a "hot coil" but whats the chances of that on 2 new coils.... Waiting for a c/b from a tech...just left a message today. ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS ISSUE PLEASE CHIME IN

Spoke to tech support today and the person i spoke to was very knowledgeable and courteous. He gave me a very detailed explanation of why this would occur sometimes and it made a lot sense. I am not going to try and repeat it as i would not do it justice but for my issue i thought i had is now a non issue. Great Customer service!

I had the same thing happen to me the last time I went detecting. I'm new to it and still trying to learn the detector. I just thought it was me. When I raised the coil up off the ground it still sounded off. I was using a 6" hf coil and thought it was something wrong with the coil. I havnt checked it on any other coils yet.

I went back out the other day and switched to the factory mf coil and had no problems. Did really good I thought for a beginer. I found 17 pennies 2 dimes and 1 nickel. Nothing old but had a good time and got some good practice learning the functions on the 705
