705's TID stabilizer feature -Questions.

Digdoggy

New member
Hey all, anybody use the TID stabilizer on the 705. If so I've read right in the manual that the audio may not match the VDI.
Question is- How far away is the incorrect tone. Could you see a 42 vdi and get a low iron tone? Or read a -6 and get a nice mid tone that should match a vdi around the 20's?

To be honest I use it all the time and notice no difference in tones etc,
it does steady the jumping id numbers a little, but nothing at all to wory about,
i'd be more concerned about the GB,I always use auto track, and switch off when pin pointing.

Thanks, yeah I've had it on and off but don't really get a big difference. I don't usually dig low iron tones so I can't say I've been able to see how far the tone can be off. Last time I put VID stablizer on, my 705 was bouncing all over on any target. The ground was dust bowl dry and the ground phase was running 11 - the teen #s. High mineral.... as Longhair will tell you mineral high and very dry- your vid is going to bounce. I'm going to keep mine on next hunt.

Same here. If I have something that's being jumpy as far as the TID goes then I'll go into Coins Plus Mode. On occasion it has helped me recover a target that I may not have otherwise dug. It's not one of those features that I would say would sell me on buying the detector but it is helpful in the right circumstances. I think it's all related to soil conditions which as we know can vary drastically from location to location.

What is the coin plus mode??
I think Mud means - when you turn on TID stabilizer you get a plus sign on the screen and your in coin and treasure mode. So you can say- Coin +.

I've always called it Coins + Mode after hearing Des Dunne call it that in a video awhile back. Same as Target ID Stability Mode on page 22 of the 705 manual.

It appears as though he's taken those videos down or maybe I just can't locate them. Des had a nice series of You Tube videos for beginners and people that wanted a refresher.

Personally, I like to get my detector stable through correct GB and sensitivity so I've never bothered using it. Where I would like to see this feature, is when I'm in prospecting mode on the hot grounds we have on our goldfields here in Australia - the 705 drives me nuts out there.

I've still not played with prospector mode. I do have a park where they filled an old fresh water beach with some sort of foundry like coarse sand that is hot and makes the 705 go buck wild nuts with constant false hits. This fill makes me believe a park manager did this most dilberatly. Especially that this site is an old swimming hole beach.

I thing regardless of having your detector stable through correct ground balance and sensitivity you'll find that this mode will help you if you have a coin on edge or in a strange position. When you ground balanced, that coin under ground was not there but when you are over top of a target, that's when the stability mode comes into play.

Agreed Mapper. Some coins do sound unstable and stability will definitely help in those situation. As I say, I never really use it so I can't be sure, but do you think this feature would make trash stable as well? My logic is that stability mode will "filter" out those distinct sounds that help me ID trash. I guess I should start using it and see how it goes.

Dog, that's exactly what some of our hotter goldfields sound like. I've learnt that a solid chunk of metal will sound much louder in these areas but the false hits and constant noise in your headphones just drive you crazy after a while.
