8/2/2008 - Strangest silver '64 Quarter I ever found

Went out this morning for a 3 Hr hunt. Found a '64 silver quarter where it appears someone rolled it to flatten the edge. Strange bugger! Also found a George Washington Dollar coin, '63 nickel, '42 and '44 wheats, '80 and '93 canadian cents, some kids jewelry, metal key fob, and $6 in clad.

Thanks for looking

Sure looks like the start of a coin ring. How close were you to John in Edmonton? Great hunt!

Lots of good finds. You did well in clad..

I found one just like that about thirty years ago - it was a silver 1964 quarter with the flattened edges. At the time I had a Fisher MetAlert model 70. You would use a heavy spoon or a small thumbtack hammer to flatten the edges, drill out the center and file it smooth inside and out to make a silver ring. I recently saw a prison movie where they were making them there also. Real cool find!

Interesting find!!!

For sure the start of a coin ring. That is a great find.
