8"x6" swing speed

I think swing speed is more related to ground and target conditions than it is to type of coil for the Etrac. The processing is done not by the coil but by the unit itself. The more targets the more response time is needed to process the target. and give an audio visual display.

exactly .

You still have to go slow.

I will follow you with my Deus. Let me know when.

Here we go again ....LOL....Sounds like a challenge...G4E My money's on you!

G4E would kick my butt any day!

hahaha I am never in competition with anyone, I am just as happy for my friends to find stuff as I am to find cool stuff

I'll be trying out my 8"x6" for the first time, can I swing the E-Trac a bit faster than I do using the stock?

You can sweep a 'little' faster IF you enable the Fast Recovery option. It bypasses some of the time consuming filtering allowing the uprocessor to run faster/sweep.
The keyword is 'little'. On the other hand i believe if you run a tight discrim. pattern with Deep enabled both of which use extra filtering time, it'll defeat the purpose.

Probably for the fastest sweep time for shallower targets can be obtained with; an open pattern, Fast Recovery ON and Deep OFF.
But if you are after 10+ inch deep targets especially in a junk field all bets are off, sweep slow with any setting.

even with FAST ON, if I go more than 2 seconds per swing I miss deep targets........whats the hurry??? are you after deep old coins or shallow clad? swing fast and you will get the shallow stuff, take your time and swing slow and let the etrac do its job

Amen! If you want to go fast get a Deus.

Getting too old to go fast! lol
As Goes4ever said, whats the hurry?

I'll bet Deus'er guys walk over some of the really deep targets trying to win some kind of race!
Remember the tortoise and the rabbit race! An element of truth to that! LOL!
..............

To the OP'er, as i said if you are after shallower targets try those settings to sweep just a little faster and as i also indicated don't expect to find the deep stuff. As with most decisions there are tradeoffs.
The best way to find those deep targets with an eTRAC is to go slooow, manual discrim., listen, sweep the target in different directions, study the IDs and digest what the eTRAC is telling you.

I'm with Iron and G4E "What's the Hurry" Everybody says the Deus is fast but no one has convinced me it's fast and deeper than ML detectors. Nothing has convinced me that the Deus is some kind of a metal detecting vacume that leaves nothing in the ground cause its so superior to ML.

Funny thing is when the next "big thing" in detectors comes out there will be that crowd that has to justify they made the right choice in spending all that money. They will be on the XP forums posting on how much better, faster and deeper their new detector will go. Of course if there are many more Deus's sold out there..... won't be anything left for the rest of us to find anyway....Just go ask em on their forum. Careful though the next big thing in detectors could be Etrac ll. Speed up the processor and the Etrac will go fast and deep.

I believe there's a point when bells and whistles are just that, bells and whistles.

Good stuff guys, I appreciate the time that was put into the responses. I have a old sledding hill that is very trashy so hopefully I will pull out some keepers with the smaller coil. I'll go real slow.

True. I had an Etrac and then the CTX (big mistake and only because my -Etrac was going out of warranty, they weren't producing an E-trac II and I foolishly didn't want to go back to the same thing). After dumping the CTX, I went to the Deus. I truly believe the E-trac platform is the best machine MineLab produces and they should evolve it. If they do, I'll buy one. Not buying another CTX-like machine if they continue to upgrade it.

I hope the E-trac II will be the next BIG thing. I will buy it!!! I loved my E-trac!

The CTX definitely was not the next BIG thing from MineLab (what a mistake, in my opinion). I hope the E-trac II will be the next BIG thing. I will buy it!!! I loved my E-trac!

Maybe some of you Deus guys can explain something .... I've seen a previous Etrac owner gone Deus, hunting around here.... actually use to hunt with him. That's' "use to" past tense. He's not shy about bragging how fast his new Deus is. He's even gone as far as bragging on here about his finds in a local park and adds "a park that has been pounded by Etracs". Funny thing is I've actually found stuff behind him and his Deus but never seen the need to make comments about it.. Another funny thing is, sure don't see him hunting any faster than I do with my Etrac. So my question is "What is this speed advantage suppose to speed up and how much better does it really make the Deus?"

Our hobby is rather unique but has been under fire on many fronts. Really would like to see all factions of this hobby support anyone who metal detects no matter what they swing.

I am and will always be an ingrained "MineLab Swinger". I go slow with my XP Deus just as I did with my 4 previous MineLab machines. I did make it back to an area (2 hours away) that my brother-in-law and I had pounded hard (several times) with 2 E-tracs and a CTX and dug a very nice 1927 Buffalo at 8" in the 30 minutes I was there. We had dug a good quantity of silver in that 10 foot by 25 foot area so I wanted to see if the Deus would pull anything. I have heard that the Deus is better on lower conductive targets like Nickels and Gold.
