Got up early this morning to go to my favourite park where, so far, I have dug $144.07 in the last 2 weeks. What a day! I dug 87 holes, a record. Sadly 74 of them were bottle tops!!! And I dug most of them before I found any paydirt at all. In the end I also got 13 coins for a total of $12.05. Not my best day, but got lots of exercise! I only reported this because it's the most holes I've ever dug in one morning. I'm sure many can better (or worse) it!

C. Nyal de Kaye ~ 87 holes !!!

A true digger for sure...
Good practise to dig so many bottle tops, like you've done.

You'll hit gold in one of these holes I'm sure; if you keep on like that hunt.:detecting:

Wow....and to think you almost got most the junk out of your way! Soon you'll be turning up the Gold! Oh Yea!!!!!!:detecting:

Thanks for your comments Snowy and KCK. Today I dug another 53 holes for bottle tops, plus got $12.01, a 1948 shilling, a 1935 penny and a gold medal commemorating the Royal Visit in 1963. There can't be mant more bottle tops in the whole of Christendom! I've done this park before, and found a few, but I seem to have stumbled onto a plague of them lately.

Don't worry so much about digging trash. Sometimes you have to dig the trash in order to get to the treasure. If its a park that you will hunt often, you will be doing yourself a favor to get rid of as much trash as possible. And, you will eventually learn to recognize the trash signals & overlook them. I don't know how you have your machine set up, but I have learned to use no discrimination at all & rely mainly on the cursor in "Smart Screen" & sounds of this amazing machine.

I don't' use the digital as I have proven to myself that depending on the depth & ground conditions in my area these readings can vary too much.
This is just my opinion. I would STILL recommend that you try to use this & all features of your machine & YOU decide what is best for you, (in your area). All the info you get on this forum may NOT be helpful for you in your situation. You simply have to experiement & find what works best for you.

Thanks to the help of folks on this forum I am learning to master my machine. I've learned to use no discrimination at all, (including iron mask), & concentrate on the cursor & sounds & dig all weak signals & high pitched signals. I know by looking at the cursor where good targets come in.

Good luck & HH

Tell ya what C. Nyal de Kaye, bottle caps are like footprints in the sand...

Where bottle caps is ___ folks was !!!

A bit like a hunter hunting for a bear ~ he's gonna be looking for bear tracks !

:clapping:You're on the trail !!!:detecting:

Heh heh

Thank you Tone Junky and Snowy for your welcomed comments. You make a good point Snowy - there must be heaps of people in this park every week going by the junk they leave.

I am trying to take your advice Tone Junky. At the moment I do use some discrimination but I am realising that in the end I have to get away from it. Today I did conclude that some signals I got were junk - I dug them and it was exactly the junk I imagined. So, that's a little bit of progress. As you say Tone Junky, I have noticed that the numbers jump about a lot and are confusing. So far, I have not serioulsy tried the Smart Screen but I will.

I've been a bit scared of the machine - so many confusing noises! That's why I used a discrimination pattern, but I'm gaining in confidence and will open the machine up. Thanks for the encouragement boys!
