9 46, 10 46, 11 46, 12 46, 13 46

Hi guys....When I see these #'s can I expect the same find or does the 1st set of numbers mean different things. Even though 12 46 usually indicates a quarter, will I still get a quarter on the other 1st numbers. I haven't learned yet as to what those 1st numbers mean.

i am not technical but will try and answer your query the first number is the ferrous content it may jump about as is not always as stable as the conductive number which as you can see is your second reading you will generally be digging up a quarter and when the coin is out or the hole is opened up it will generally settle down to your 12.46 if you dig up something else then that too should go down in your memory bank and soon you will be able to match tones and ids which will help you dig some good targets hope that helps maybe someone else will come on and explian it with a little more detail happy hunting

.....yep!!!

Good targets won't always be on that magic FE12 line. The ground does some very funny and unpredictable things to target numbers.
That's why it's more important to focus on the audio rather than the numbers.
A lovely green patina on a copper coin seems to confuse the ETrac sometimes. I've dug some very iffy signals that I thought would be junk, only to find a Victorian penny.

Gaz.

Herb,

Those numbers can be all over.

The second number (Conductive number is your most stable one). For simplicity I will say I've seen the FE numbers (the first one) give me finds from 01 down to 27. MOST of the time 01-17 is where the better ones fall.

One thing you will hear time and again on this forum is to not go by the numbers. It's hard not to, when you're trying to get used to the machine. Do what feels comfortable with you until you get the hang of it. The more hours you put in and the more diggin' you do (especially at first) the more you can start to understand the E-Trac's language.

Why is not going by the numbers important. Let's say a normal wheat penny number (12-41) then you add a normal buffalo nickel number (12-15)..... you get a pocket spill with that combination, and its more likely to be a consistent signal and a number like 12-24 or the like.

1st priority - Consistent Signal
