WHAT A GREAT TIME WE HAD.
YOU CAN GET A SQUARE BAIL AT ANY HORSE OR CATTLE RANCH..SET IT IN PLACE & PUT SOME FERTILIZER ON THE TOP & WATER IT OFTEN.I PUNCHED AN INDENTION (3) IN THE TOP,,ADDED A LITTLE DIRT,,PUT THE PLANTS IN,,AND COVERED THEM WITH A MILK JUG WHEN IT WAS TO COLD..WORKS WELL WITH SQUASH TO..(NO GEASS PROBLEM)
COULD NOT GET MY OTHER PICTURE TO UPLOAD

Too bad horse and cattle ranches are rare around here; maybe a near-by farm would have some of this hay.

When the plants start to grow, do you transfer them into the ground or do they grow to ripeness in the bail of hay?

I sure am feeling ignorant about gardening when I see photos like this!

thanks for the pic

who the 9 Musketeers are! :)

And I gave away a couple bales last fall. One I have now is up against the trailer to keep the water line from the well to the house from getting hit with cold winter blasts.

The other bales though did get burned and roto-tilled into the garden next door.

Neighbor uses a vacant lot for gardening with the owners permission. We get lots of tomatoes, head cabbage, peppers, etc. He burns leaves in the fall to add into the dirt. During the spring we toss our grass clippings in for more nutrients.

Looks like those plants are growing great.
