9" or 11" coil? :help:

Hello- I do apologize in advance if this topic has already been discussed here before. I'm finally ordering my XP Deus this week regardless of the never ending snow & winter here. Wth?

I was curious as to what the consensus is on the 9" or 11" coils when it comes down to having just one all around "go to" coil for the Deus. I can only afford one of these coils at this point in time & I want to make the best choice with what's available now. Based on the old iron laden homesteads & trashy parks that I detect in for the most part, I'm wondering if getting better separation with the 9" coil is more beneficial then the added depth that comes with the 11" coil for these types of areas.

I understand that normally a smaller coil means better separation, I've just been reading & hearing that both of these coils in question are very close when it comes to this due to the lightning fast processing speed of the Deus. Which usually is not the case when it comes to different coil sizes & this has me wondering which way to go since it's now an either or coil option.

I will eagerly await your replies before I push the button on this purchase. Thanks much for your time & input!

I use both and they are both great coils. I'd stick with the 9 that comes with the unit until you get the hang of the machine then you can make your own decision on weather to buy a new coil or not.

I have both. If I had to make a choice, I'd get the 11".

I have all three coils.
The 11X13 I've used maybe a dozen times. Covers well for soccer and football fields, but to big for everyday...
The 9" is great for in the woods and tight places separates the best. Works the best around the play equipment...
The 11" is the best of all worlds. Separates and covers well. I've only taken it off one time since I received it and that was to charge it while using the 9".
So, I guess what I'm saying is I'd go with the 11"

and welcome aboard...

I opted for the 11". Never used the 9", but the separation for the 11" is amazing and the added depth is great for my type of hunting. I'm glad I got the 11".

11" is my primary coil but the 9" is good for getting into tight spaces.
Working a freshly plowed furrowed field or one with corn stubble, the 9" would be a better choice.
Working flat turf it's the 11".

Thanks everyone! I just ordered the Deus 11" WS4 package. I'm very familiar with navigating/swinging the Minelab Pro coils, so I don't think I'll have any issues here.

If I feel as though I need the smaller coil, I can always buy one further down the road. Based on your much appreciated feedback, I think the 11" coil is the best all around choice that's currently available. The Deus should be arriving up in my frozen tundra in a couple of days. I'll post my finds once spring finally decides to arrive... lol

Good day & HH!

How is the weight difference between the 9" and 11" ???

Does the 11" coil make it feel more nose heavy in anyway or unbalanced?

I am tossing around the Deus maybe and of course I have the option for 9 or 11 inch .... I want the 11" I would assume based on what I have read here and elsewhere ... but no one had said anything about it being heavier or making the entire more unbalanced at all (which is probably good if I haven't read it anywhere ... means is a non issue I would assume).

Thanks for the info. :)

The 11" is very well balanced and light. It doesn't nose dive and is very easy to swing. I would have chosen the 11" coil had been an option at the time I purchased.

I personally like to swing the 9

There is very little difference in the weight between the 9" and 11" coils and the balance is very good.
When XP designed the 11" coil they lightened it to reduce the fatigue that the slightly miss balanced heavier 11X13 coin had.

9" coil with cover weighs 450 grs
11" coil with cover weighs 465 grs
11X13 coil with cover weighs 670 grs

You get your Deus yet? How is it going for you?

Another member on a forum hit me up as he saw I was doing TONS of research on this Deus and asked me this in a PM ...............

"I'm also in the market for a Deus. I mostly coin hunt and many of the properties I am hunting are very trashy. So I'm leaning towards the 9" coil instead of the 11" coil. Do you agree that's the way to go? I've been looking for videos or a forum post with regard to that question and haven't come across it yet."

I am in the agreeance I want the 11" coil for added depth and from what I have told it;s the best out of the two .... but would a guy want to use the 9" possibly in that Horribly Junky Bad Smaller Yard?

I will be using mine for smaller home sites but also larger parks etc. so I am for sure going with the 11" ....... but would you recommend the 9" to a guy primarilly always using his in small junk areas?

Is there a huge difference in seperation etc. etc. using the 9" over the new 11"

Thanks guys ... i posted this link in my reply to him so I'm sure he will be checking this thread out for more answers to his question.

Not much difference in separation b/t the two coils...here's a video:

Awesome video ... Looks like the 11" seperates just as good as the 9" overall ... plus the added depth seems to me to make the 11" option a no brainer.

My Deus w/11" coil was cutting through the trash at my last outing and locking on the goodies. It was almost funny.
