!926 Merc. and a 1926 Wheatie today

kickback

New member
I couldn't hunt this morning as it was too cold. The sun seemed to soften a few spots this afternoon so I took the SE out to get more acquainted.I dug a 1926 Mercury Dime that was 1 inch deeper in the hole than the length of my Lesche digger.I got a good 2 way signal and it pinpointed"soft" sounding. When I got the hole as deep as the digger was and no coin I ran the pinpointer down and got a good signal.I took out about a 1" plug and there was the Merc.In the bottom of the plug.My buddy was speechless. He couldn't get a signal at all on the Merc with his XLT cranked up.I had it in iron mask 16 and semi auto sens 22.Thanks to James(ND) recommendation. The wheatie was only 6 1/2 inches deep.I later dug a clad quarter that was on edge at 9 inches, measured. It came up 00 29 but one way the tone was "scratchy" the other way it was good.My buddy swings the detector and his brother digs the targets, once pinpointed, he uses a hand held pinpointer to find the coins in the hole.Their coin count is usually higher than mine. Not the last 2 trips with me using the SE.The 2 of them dug the same number of quarters as me today but a dug 5 times as many dimes and double the pennies, this includes wheaties as they did.The place we hunted is an old resort on a lake that burned down. The ground is white with alkali and it's carpeted with nails, screwcaps, pulltabs, bottlecaps, balls of foil, melted cans, pieces of copper, you name it for junk it's there. Now I got to work on learning nickel signals better.Bill

Be careful not to overdue it on finds against your friend with the XLT. He may get the idea of getting an Explorer also....meaning less time for you to get all the Super Deep Keepers that he is passing over. ;) Happy to have been able to help you out Bill! Remember, any questions just ask. Good Luck and HH to you.

I will be waiting as I have dug seven inch mercs at this lake. Today a rosie at 7.5 inch but the best is when you find a merc at 1.5 inch then it's ?ell yea! But it is a hobby what I find is fun. Thanks Bill

bcliter You and your partner are tearing it up.You have been beating on silver so badly I had to get a SE just to stay close.I always enjoy hunting with you.Now if I can just get Dave to dig my targets. Thanks for the hunt.Bill
