A 12:12

Bilko

Found yesterday in a field in Greater London. Unsure how old but most of the finds have been 17th to 19th century. We have to declare to the Postable Antiquities Scheme so have done that. What type of gold is 12:12, please? Note the markings on the "V" are different

Very nice find - I'm not sure what 12:12 means. Looks like a Masonic related item with the compass and square. You may want to Google "Mason" "Royal Arch Masons" and "Masonic" and see what comes up in terms of their emblem and history. I would guess your piece to be from the 19th century - hopefully your local finds liaison will be able to tell you more. Nice find and happy hunting!

Thanks for the picture Bilko. Nice find there. Let us know what you find out about it!

Pitures not so good colour wise.It reads the number 12:12 on the etrac. Is that always gold? It's a masonic medallion or something like that

I got this from one lodge:

Thank you for your email. It is difficult to determine the age of the
emblem you found. This emblem is quite common, even today. Depending
on the size of it would explain the usage. Some smaller emblems were
used as FOB's and larger ones were door plaques. If the item is truly
gold, you have something of great value. Most of the items were made
of brass or copper.

Thanks.Must be gold then since it hasn't detiorated one bit

Cool, yep the old square and compass of the masonic lodge. Nice condition too.

Cool find. I love anything Masonic. Thanks for posting your find.
