A bit of History in IRON

Youngted

New member
Over on the UK side of the pond the iron remains of these foot pattens are often found by detectorists even with the T2 1 the circle fools the machine. But I don't mind finding interesting Iron artifacts at times. The pattens were in use from the 17th right through the 19th century. Do they appear in the states?

Thats real neat and the T2 found it Wow!!!

Never seen anything like that here in Oklahoma USA.What is it and what is it used for? Is it a cobblers tool?Is it common to find the iron attached to the wood? Been MDing for many years and unusual finds are what keep me going.

You only find the iron remains as they can date back well over 100 years and the wood & leather is gone. They were used to keep the feet out of the muddy conditions in the streets of the time. That's why I wondered if they turn up on the east side of the US .The most usual place to find them is on a footpath or fairground site
