A code of Arms?

New member
Found this while detecting near a 1850's home today. It's made of Pewter looks to maybe be a code of arms?? Not sure

Is anything on the back for mounting on a door- as family crest(coat of arms) for mounting on front door?

Think araayotte needs to be canned...like meat...lol

HH,

BTW...Your find does look like a coat of arms, just trying to think of how and on what it might have been mounted.

Pure speculation-- on or over a fireplace, on a wall, on the outside of front door, over a barn door. Since there is nothing to judge size in picture, if small- the door of a wealthy persons carriage.

If you want some fun, there are resources to research this. In medieval times these were referred to as a "device". One of the primary uses was those painted on shields for battle to indentify the warriors and the house they fought for. There are actual books and archives available if someone was interested enough. It would be sort of like getting into a geneology thing.
