[attachment 192020 chick1.gif][attachment 192021 chick2.gif][attachment 192022 chick3.gif]Here's a couple of fuzzy chick pics...may look a little different than the ones you remember. The light chickens are Delaware x Silver laced wyandotte. The dark chicks are purebred SLW. They are sooo funny to watch and do the cutest things. Act just like children. Also the second time using my lightbox....I think I am learning it a bit better. Used a 100 watt reveal light bulb this time.

Wonderful Pictures! Gosh...that brings back memories of when I was a kid. You're turning out to be a very good photographer.

I have been waiting for a pic too! :bouncy:

Cute pics Liz!

Ha! Travis tells Loren every night that the chicks are about right for some tasty chicken nuggets. I have never eaten my own animals--I'm not against it, but if we have several roosters in this batch, I think we will be having fresh chicken! Lol. That will be an experience!!! We already have a mighty fine rooster named General Sherman (go ahead and laugh) and he needs no competition. Lol.

Oh thanks Liz! They are so cute....I had forgotten but mom used to have sitting hens who would stay on the nest until the chicks hatched and best I can remember they were yellow! Grandma did hers by incubator! Mom would put a porcelain door knob or something similar to an egg and get the sitting hens started in staying on the nests! We had to watch out for the black snakes as they would get in the chicken house and swallow the eggs! Don't remember them catching the little chicks, though, but the hawks would if the chicks couldn't get under their mother hen's wings fast enough! They are really comical to watch and even when scratching for food with mother hen! That is one thing about farm life, I did learn a lot about animals....both wild and tame!

You will probably have young fryers by early summer if you hatched enough to eat and also to grow into hens and roosters themselves to replenish the flock! Cleaning chickens the old fashioned way is not fun and stink when put into hot water for removing their feathers and the pin feathers! When bought in a store they are either already cut up or ready to cut up and then cleaned! Mom would either wring their necks or cut them off with an ax and let the chicken go quickly, as they will flop around and scatter blood even without a head! That sounds gruesome, but that's farm life when you grow your own veggies and meat! May God Bless! Amen! :angel: Ma Betty

Now Travis just what has she learned from you??? How to farm and how to detect!! Liz, you go girl! :biggrin: May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

How to raise the little critters in the picture.If it was not for me we would never had any chickens.But I missed the old simple life. I have to say she did do really well on the baby chick pictures.

Rick...you are sooo bad. They are already very special, but between me and you, I am thinkin' CHICKEN AND DUMPLINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geez Ma, I think 7cents if full of himself :) Don't you? Lol. Yes, he has taught me many, many things since we have been together. Never would have thought I would want chickens, but I'm afraid I am turning into a crazy chicken lady.

I'm still waiting! :razz::crazy:

Well there is nothing wrong, Liz, in being a crazy chicken lady, as my grandma liked raising chickens and also guiney hens....And WOW they sure made good watch animals....when the guineys started squaking at our arrival at grandma's they sure were noisy! Never considered her a crazy chicken lady though but my dad when a boy probably did as he had to tend to the little chicks and keep them from running into the fire when grandma boiled her water for washing clothes! We had chickens but dad never bothered with them except to eat fried chicken and chicken and dumplings! Lots of work but it will be worth it....as the prices keep going up in the stores and at the gas stations! If I was able to tend to a garden I would put one in again, but too much work for this ole lady now!! May God Bless! Amen! :angel: Ma Betty
